- Well, first off, you should know hello/hi and goodbye at least. Hello is здравей (zdravey, and i'm not sure if the last letter in cyrillics is right) and Hi is здрасти, zdrasti, which i used a lot in bulgaria. Goodbye, you can say довиждане (dovizhdane) which i heard a lot less than the familiar, "ciao ciao". A good website for learning basics is http://www.kirildouhalov.net/. Phrasebooks are helpful in learning practical things to say (such as къде е тоалетната? - where is the toilet?) Make sure to learn your numbers, because it helps a lot in markets if you're bargaining. It would also be helpful for you to know, though it doesn't have anything to do with words, that they shake their heads differently than how we do here. What we do to say 'no' actually means 'yes' in bulgaria, and what we do to say 'yes' kind of looks like how they say 'no'.
