| Who needs Bulgarian language instructions? - Hi, I`m Bulgarian by origin, but also speak English, Croatian and am an advanced learner of Italian. I`m crazy about languages and I would like to help others learn what I know and possibly be also helped in my language attempts in turn:-))).At the moment I`m starting learning Slovene, but I am also interested in Greek, German (have a bit of knowledge there) and Russian (still remember a bit).I am also keen on practising my Italian. | |

| - здравеи казвам се чъли (Julie). I would love to be able to 'get by' in Bulgarian as I have visited there twice and intend to go a lot more. I have a simple phrase book but I find it hard to just remember lists of words. I stayed in Veliko Turnovo both times and love the mountains. We had an amazing car ride over the Shipka pass in the snow! You mentioned learning Greek - well I can speak a little Greek so if you are starting from scratch then maybe I can help. | |

| - Zadrave, Katichka! Blagodarya ( or I think that is how you spell thank you) Anyway Thank you so much for the phrases. I looked over the now huge posting of words to learn in Bulgarian on this site and I am very much overwelmed. I am afraid I will have to use a cheat sheet over there to try and remember even half of the words I am trying to cram into my head. I am leaning how to say some basic stuff right now, like foods. That is going very well and I know how to say all the silver ware names like knife (nozh) Please keep sending phases my way! Every little bit is helping. I am very much hoping to be able to talk to his mother at least a little bit. That is the maion person I would love to talk to. According to my boyfriend she is one amazing woman. | |

| thanks Катичка - thankyou for the sentences to translate- they are about my level i think or at least hope! lol, and thx for suggesting a study group. it's especically good of you to share your very great knowledge with those of us who speak languages you already know so well, such as english. which is my language, so i'm not sure i have much to offer you unless you plan to come to australia and you can stay at my place for free :) my story is i'm part russian and have some bg friends. i've loved bg music and culture for a very long time. | |

There seem to be a few of us with contacts in Veliko Turnovo--maybe we'll all get together there to talk Bulgarian one day. I'm hoping to speak a lot more Bulgarian by the time I go back in September. Thanks again. Annie | |

| - I recently got married to a Bulgarian man and his family came to visit us for the first time. Most of his family speaks English, but I am not able to directly converse with some of his relatives. I would like to be able to understand and converse with the members of his family who do not speak English. He is helping me learn, but I feel the need for as much help as possible. Thank you in advance for any help that you are able to offer. | |

| - Hey I just started to learn and I know a good few basic phrases but Im struggling with the grammar and I would really like to form sentences without having to use a phrasebook so any help you can give me would be great as my bulgarian friends have gone back to bulgaria for the summer. My 1st question would be is there any way of telling when a word is masc/fem/nuetral? | |
| katichka | Thursday 09th of June 2005 05:18:38 AM |
| - Здравей MrClean! Well, in most cases a word ending in A is feminine, in E or O - neutrum, and all the others - masculine...but...there are no exact rules as far as I know. Well, maybe just practice helps and one gets a feeling with time, like with English spelling:-))) Lots of luck! | |

| Learning Bulgarian - I, too, am learning some Bulgarian. I have gathered a variety of resources and am putting together some travel cheat sheets, such as, for ordering food at a restaurant. I like the Cryllic alphabet very much since it is mostly one sound per letter. The hardest part for me is finding people in the USA for Bulgarian conversations. Also, verbs and idioms are hard to translate. I have studied and forgotten other languages due to lack of usage, but mainly I know about various American dialects, slang and idioms. | |
