| - I have considered myself relatively good at Spanish for a long time. However, reading the comments is a bit scary as I can only vaguely understand what you are talking about. I plan to live in Spain however I feel like I might need to learn CAtalan as well. Is it necessary to learn the different dialects if I only know Castillian Spanish and Latin American Spanish? | |

| Help!! - Hello! I LOVE Spanish and would really like to learn Catalan. I can't find anywhere near me where I could learn it and my teachers don't speak it. Can anyone help? Also, there's a song I love in Catalan called "Pol Petit". Does anybody know what it means? Moltes gracies :) | |

| in response to eilla883 - Hi, about learning Catalan it depends on where you want to live in Spain. For instance if you live in Madrid you will most likely never need to speak Catalan seeing as most madrileños only speak castillian. Barcelona maybe, but my friends tell me that in Barcelona you can get by on castillian. Hope this helps. | |

| ! ayuda ! - I want to create a poster about the Catalan language to make our Spanish room more colourful.I have a lot of pictures and ideas but my biggest problem is to write a text in Catalan because I study it only by myself.So can you have a look,please, if I have made mistakes? La català aparèix en texts escrits a partir del segle 9 , és utilitzat com llengua oficial des dels principis del segle 18 i sempre (se ha hablado) en la vida qotidià.Durant el franquismo el ús del català quda totalment prohibit, tambè en el ámbit privat.Segons la constitució de 1978 actualment és, junt al castellà, llengua oficial de l'administració en Catalunya, les Illes Balears i la Comunitat Valenciana, és a dir per uns 10 miliós de persones. Se publiquen quasi 5000 títols al any en català i és utilitzat en la premsa, la ràdio i la televisió.En el ensenyament, el català-com llengua-no sols és assignatura obligatòria pels alumnes sinó des de alguns anys a més las classes son en català. Si sabéis otros textos en catalan que son más divertido que el mio,podeis escribirmelos :-) Muchas gracias! | |

| Learning Catalan - I visit Menorca almost every year, and i thought it was time i learnt the language, it makes me feel so rude going to foreign countries and not being able to speak the language. What is the best way to learn, i have no knowledge of spanish or catalan, however i am a software developer and i learn a lot of programming languages so i will hopefully be able to pick up another language quickly, i hope. If anyone has any good resources where i can learn catalan please let me know | |

| - Qui vulgui xerrar es catala amb mi, pot fer-ho...jo som de mallorca, (illes balears) i tambe xerr es catala...n'hi ha una petita diferencia...amb es catala de Catalunya, pero es pot entendre igual..per exemple...xerrar en mallorqui es es parlar catalan...despres a mallorca usam es....ES quan volem diure EL ...be hi do...si cualqu vo practicar es catala amb mi, ho fare encantat! Perdonu que n hagi possat accents...esque ara mateix estic visquent als estast units i aquest teclat no en te de accents..:) Adeeeeeu! | |
