Anyways, I thought I'd give a few explanations to some of the words here: neviňátko = innocent this is a noun (the adjective is nevinný/nevinná/nevinné in singular) and it's diminutive - this word is used for an innocent child, in whatever context, and also for someone who's trying to look innocent, as in 'Netvař se jako neviňátko' - Don't try to look like an innocent child) konexe = connection this word is only used to refer to someone who is in a position in an institution or a company where he/she can help to gain undeserved advantage, usually bypassing the rules cídit = to clean actually means to polish, only used with objects which can be made shiny, mostly those made of metal tancovačka = dance party a bit old-fashioned word, mainly used to refer to a village dance party, with a traditional bras band (dechovka) azbuka = cyrillic alphabet in Czech this is only used for the Russian Cyrillics. The others (Bulgarian, Serbian etc.) are usually refered to as 'cyrilice'. absoluce = absolution I haven't really ever heard this word used, except maybe in some philosophical or similar texts. There is a word 'absolutorium' which means a university graduation. galánka = girlfriend this is actually a Slovak word and it means a young girl. If the girl is connected with a particualr person within the context (i.e. 'moja galánka'), it may indeed mean a girfriend. And now for the word: akontace = deposit (for a hire-purchase, a lease etc.) | |

You're basically right about [b]potkat se[/b]/[b]setkat se[/b]: potkat koho/co - to meet whom/what potkat/setkat se s kým/čím - to meet with whom/what setkat se s něčím - to encounter something The verb 'setkat' always comes with 'se'. There is a noun 'setkání' which means meeting/having met someone, but also is used to describe events like a convention, gathering, reunion, etc. 'Potkat/potkat se s...' conveys an element of coincidence. Using 'potkat se s někým' (to meet someone) if the event wasn't unexpected is kinda slangy, but used quite frequently. Some examples: Potkal jsem starého přítele - I met an old friend Jeho snaha se nesetkala s úspěchem - His effort hasn't met with success S něčím takovým jsem se dosud nesetkal - I haven't encountered anything like this yet | |
