Milan Kundera - Hey,

I just want to share my opinion about this GREAT author. I've discovered him recently (why so late???), and I simply fell for him. So far I've read only 'Nesnesitelna lehkost byti' (the film I saw before) and 'L'ignorance'. I can't stop thinking about what I read! Such an influence he has on me.Of course I read his novels in Polish but maybe later I'll try original versions (Czech &French) Are there any other funs of Kundera wanting to share opinion about him? I'm also curious if students in Czech read his books at school. If you know more works of Kundera, please recommend them to me! Anyone interested in discussing his literature?

ps. There are of course other great Czech writers. Personally I enjoy reading Bohumil Hrabal and Franz Kafka. Honestly I don't think I know more writers from Czech Republic. But if they are as good as those who I mentioned then I must know it!

- Yes, i think he is a very good writer. I read "the book of laughter and oblivion (kniha snichu a zapomneni), his writing is so alive, very nice narrative form. i also like Franz Kafka, the 'noire' atmosphere and the fine irony in his writing. And i have read Jaroslav Hasek's 'Svejk', i enjoyed that too.

Milan Kundera and others - I like Kundera's books as well although I have not read all of them. But I can recommend you his book of short stories "Směšné lásky" (Laughable Loves) and his novel "Žert" (Joke).

Kundera's books are read by students and they are very popular among them. Unfortunatelly Kundera does not thought himself as Czech anymore and all his new books are written in French.

As for other authors, I like books by Karel Čapek. I recommend books of short stories Povídky z jedné kapsy (Tales From One Pocket) and Povídky z druhé kapsy (Tales From The Other Pocket) or his novel "Krakatit" (Krakatit).

The most famous Czech book is probably Jaroslav Hašek's "Osudy dobrého vojáka Švejka za světové války" (The Good Soldier Schweik).
