muj vs. moje - Howdy,

I'm not sure how to enter in the accent marks for Czech, so this may be kind of hard.

I'm doing the Pimsleur Czech program, which I like by the way, and I'm at a part where I'm learning 'my.' The two phrases we're learning it with at the moment are:

My husband - Muj manzel
My wife - Moje manzelka

At least I think that is right...?

Anyway, the speaker goes over the "my husband" part pretty well, but when they do the "my wife" part they speak it so fast, I can't tell the difference. In fact, if they hadn't said "Did you hear the difference?" I never would have known...well 'never' might not be right, but you get the idea.

I've listened to it 4 - 6 times and I still can't hear it. Could someone attempt to provide me with a pronunciation?

I think it is something like:

muj - Moowee
moje - Moowa

If this works out, I'll ask about my favorite food...zmrzlina.

Thanks!

pronunciation - well, here's an attempt:
muj = something like moo yee (with the "ee" at the end cut off)
moje = something like more yeah (with the "yeah" pronounced very short).
(I realise this is a crass way of describing pronunciation!)
Any natives care to comment??

- Howdy,

Well this is a start.

More like moo yee not moowee and
moo ya instead of moowee

Thanks, with luck I'll be in Seattle in July at a Czech round talble type thing at the university and I can ask some of my questions there.

- I've recorded a sample and saved it as an mp3 (only about 62 kB) - only there's no way to post an attachment on the forum. Have you got an e-mail address to give away on such occasions?

můj - Spanish 'muy', only the 'u' lasts longer
moje - I'd describe the sound as 'mo-yeh'

Does this help?
