Dicitonary - I just ordered Teach Yourself Danish from amazon. Does anyone know it? What do you think about it? Hope to receive it in a few days. I reckon I will need a dictionary. Does anyone know a good English-Danish and vice versa one? I couldn't find one in the amazon website.
Thanks.

- Unfortunately, Scandinavian dictionaries are always missing something useful. The expensive ones never give the gender of the nouns nor the pronunciation. They always have the pronunciation for the English words side of the dictionary, which is pointless unless you're a Scandinavian learning English. So, I bought a small Berlitz traveller's dictionary. This Berlitz one has the gender for each noun, and a pronunciation guide. Though, the romanized pronunciation guide isn't great with Danish, because Danish sounds often have no close resemblence to english sounds. The single drawback of this Berlitz one is that it is small with less words than an expensive one. But its price is a no lose situation. The 'proper' ones are rip-off's, really. As a beginner, I find the Berlitz one more useful. But eventually, you'll want a more comprehensive dictionary. To my knowledge, the Scandinavians haven't managed to provide a decent all-purpose dictionary. As a beginner, definitely get the Berlitz one, as the inclusion of the nouns' genders is always coming in handy.

- Thank Ulven for the feedback!
Why do you think scandinavians haven't developed accessible dictionaries for learning their languages?
Maybe because there's no such a big demand...

- yeah my Swedish dictionary is like that... has no genders for nouns. My Danish dictionary is actually a Dansk dictionary, but has gender included in the dansk-engelsk section :)
