| Droppie Water - Hello people! I don't know any Dutch at all apart from 'dank je wel' even though I have some relatives who live in Holland! When I went over there a few years ago, I was given a bag with this cartoon character on it, Droppie Water. The bag says "Het waterschap: uit de kunst!" and I just wondered what it means in English, if anyone can help me. :)
Dank je wel! | |

| Re: uit de kunst ! - Hoi Mekare!
"Droppie water" Droppie is slang for the Dutch 'druppel' which means bubble. So droppie water is translated to 'a bubble of water' "Het waterschap: uit de kunst" This is a slogan used by these water-companies that clean&prepares water to be drunk by consumers. These companies together are called 'Het waterschap' which means something like: The watercompany "uit de kunst" literally means 'from art' but here it means 'great!' or 'excellent!' You would get something like: "The watercompany: [they are] excellent!" These cartoonbags were given away to promote the existance of these companies. Hope that helps you! ps: The cartoon is created by Robert van der Kroft who also created the famous Dutch Sjors & Sjimmie cartoonfigures. http://www.sjors-en-sjimmie.nl/ | |

| - Wow! Thank you, thats excellent! :) Ive had the bag for about 3 years now and had no idea what it meant. I use it all the time when I go shopping, I think the character is cute! He's holding a little art palette and paintbrush. :) | |
