| WAAROM? (Why?) - Hereīs how it works:
You can write a sentence or sentences in dutch -( or some rules )- which you think has something to do with Dutch Grammar. Then you give the reason(s) -WAAROM? or WHY- it is or they are so. I wish everybody the best of luck. Succes allemaal!!! That of course include myself. So, I will start: Negation: geen and niet Example A: ( Q- question,...A- answer...) Q- Heb je een auto? -( Do you have a car?) A- Ik heb geen auto. -( I donīt have a car.) Example B: Q- Begrijp je mij? -( Do you understand me?) A- Ik begrijp jou niet! -( I donīt understand you!) WAAROM ( geen )???????? and WAAROM ( niet )????????? Here are the reasons: GEEN - corresponds more or less with NO: it is used with nouns. NIET - is used in about the same way as NOT. Veel succes to the next one.... N.B. Addressed to native dutch speakers. - But how come that itīs IK HEB GEEN IDEE.( I have no idea.)-????????

| geen & niet - Hoi vriend!
I'm also learning Dutch and I'll try to give you an answer.First of all - it's better instead to try to give answers to yourself simply to search the rule:o)And it says: GEEN we use to negate only the word that follows after it and it use to be an object. That's why 'geen idee' - I have NO+idea Geen koekjes meer! Er waren geen snoepjes in de winkel. NIET we use when the negation concernes all the sentence and it's not followed directly of object. Ik heb dat NIET gedaan.Niet op de straat lopen. NB!In the cases when we use 'geen' it could be used when there's ajective before the object: Ik vind het geen mooje jurk. But: Zij houdt niet VAN warme plekken. - here's a preposition before the adj+object I hope the info is usefull for you! Groetjes en succes!
