|Assisting the PB system - This is predominantly directed toward the administrators, but ideas from users will of course come as a result.
It seems that it would be beneficial if we users were informed of ways to make the the Phrasebase run more smoothly. Whether that be ligtening its technical load, or just general posting considerations. I know PH has already made a couple of suggestions, but perhaps it'd be good to 'sticky' a thread of ideas that we users may consider, but of course not be obligated to implement. PB may just matter of factly say "These things help the system run smoother (just incase you'd like to know)".
-delete your recycling bin PM's (private messages)
-save your desired messages to a personal account
*both these above ideas have already been requested of us
-delete threads that are no longer useful to yourself or others. But please don't delete threads that others may benefit from. (this particular idea probably isn't a good idea, as we can't all be trusted to know what is useful and what isn't)
-using as small an avatar as possible (I myself haven't chosen the 'absolute' smallest, due to vanity:D)
-Rather than posting two consecutive posts unneccessarily, edit the second onto the end of your first
These particular ideas may not all be plausible, but if there are any ideas that the administrator dare not impose, but know it would actually help, I think it would be a good idea for us to know what clogs up the system, so we are at the perogative to choose against certain actions.
On this note, Phrasebase is 100 time quicker at loading up than it was when I started.
*side issue- The 'quote' function does WEIRD things sometimes :)lol. Half the screen goes black, sentences disappear mysteriously, if you use the '<' symbol beside the word 'quote', the word 'quote' disappears, etc etc...
You probably already know that, I suspect, as I've seen you guys edit people's posts to rectify it, I think.

| - i m sure i will do this.of course i was doing this earlier too.my request to administrator that they should either close pm section or make it limited (at this moment i dont know whats its actual capacity is? is it 250 mb??)so thr should be clr instruction, then perhaps every one will keep his/her inbox in proper condition.
MOST IMP THING: PPLS R INACTIVE FOR MORE THAN 1 YR. STILL THEY R WISHED ON THEIR BIRTHDAYS, I THINK THIS ALSO CAUSES OVER BURDEN.ACCOUNT INACTIVE OR NOT VISITED FOR 3 MONTHS SHOULD BE IMMIDIETLY DELETED ON 1ST DAY OF 4TH MONTH.
BIRTHDAY WISHES SHOULD B GIVEN PERSONAALY.NO NEED OF WASTING CAPACITY OF discuss.(this is my personal view)
sorry for shouting but that was necessary.i hope this will help to lower the burdens on server & make phrase base work smoothly.

| - Ulven,
Great ideas. And of course every bit helps.
Re: [ quote]...[ /quote]. When quoting someone in the threads, sometimes starting to type causes the end [ /quote] to be deleted. This causes the REST of the Bottom of the PB page to be "quoted" into the end of the post...which looks black and sucks all the rest of the posts into it.
With this, I simply ask for all of you to be careful when quoting one another. If it does happen, no worries, just let me know and I will fix it.
Re: Posts. Sometimes when posts can be logically combined it would be helpful if you edited the first post, rather than making a second one that corrects the first. I've been fixing some of these to make threads run smoother. Members can definitely do the editing themselves, give it a try!
Re: Avatars. If people make their avatars so that at least one dimension is 127 pixels, it would simplify things a lot. Currently, I go through and shrink the huge ones down to just that size. It's not an instantaneous process because I shrink them and Jeff then has to upload them into the database. If we bypass this step altogether by having members upload small avatars to begin with, it would be stellar! But I do realize that not everyone has the ability to shrink pictures from their cameras, so they should post their picture anyway, since it lets us know who is writing better than a standard icon. (for the longest time, Ulv, I associated your posts with a black anchor-holding person... it's nice to associate your picture now instead! and it's not too big, so it works).
Re: Ideas We welcome everyone's ideas in making this place work better. I don't think any of us would "impose" anything on members, except maybe the way the layout works? Which by the way is also open to suggestions. If you have ideas for new discusss, new threads, new features...definitely let us know, it would be big help.
Keep up the good work!
