Basic french words. - Here are Some basic French words that will help you with building sentences:

dans = in
sur= on
*est= is
aimer = to like
J'aime= I like
**Je n'aime pas = I don't like
un= a
Il y a= there is
Est-ce que= (it makes your statment into a question if you add it infront of the sentence).

-----------------------------------------------------------
* est is a foarm of Etre(to be). it is an irregular verb so it switches with weather you want to use it with Je, tu, il, elle, nous, vous, ills or elles.
for example : (etre = to be)
Je suis = i am
Il est= he is
Elle est= she is,
and ect.

-----------------------------------------------------------
** by adding ne and pas around a word it makes it negitive. if you are adding it around a word that starts with a vowel you replace the 'e' in 'ne' with an ' so the sentence: Elle n'aime pas steve, means she doesnt like steve.

- Bonjour,

If you translate in by dans, your sentence will be wrong in most cases. You should have mentioned that in can have different Phrases in French:

Examples:

I live in Belgium => je vis en Belgique
I am in Paris => je suis à Paris
I am in my bedroom => je suis dans ma chambre
