Conjugation - I think initially I learned just a few ... and then I saw the pattern. Even the conjugation of irregular verbs in French has patterns. How do you think French people do it if they see a verb they've never seen before? They apply one of the patterns (which seems most likely) and conjugate the verb.
I would recommend stop worrying about memorizing the conjugation. Learn it for a few verbs and tenses and keep reading and writing in French as much as possible. You will see that in a few months you will acquire a feel for the verbs, and you will need a grammar book only for difficult verbs or for rare tenses.
