| German verb conjugation - Regular Verb Forms German regular verbs all take the same conjugation, and barely ever change spelling, and all end in en as well, making en the verb stem : Ich = I du = you er = he/it sie = she/it es = it wir = we ihr = you, plural, informal sie = they, plural Sie = you, formal, singular and plural Ich: -e Du: -st er/sie/es: -t wir: -en ihr: -t sie, Sie-en gehen (to go) Ich gehe Du gehst er/sie/es geht wir gehen ihr geht sie, Sie gehen Ich gehe ins Kino. Nach der Schule, gehst du ins Kino? Er geht zur Schule. Spielen (to play) Ich spiele Du spielst er/sie/es spielt wir spielen ihr spielt sie, Sie spielen Sie spielt Fussball mit Rolf. Wir spielen auch mit Rolf. * note: if the 'she' pronoun is at the beginning of a sentence, and is capitalized, it keeps the er/sie/es conjugation, NOT the sie (they,pl.), Sie (pl.,sg.,fml.) conjugated form.* * note: objects, such as a pencil, car, plane, apple, etc., also make the verb conjugated in the sentence, and take the er/sie/es form, unless there is more than one object, it would take the plural form of Sie.* explodieren (to explode) Ich explodiere Du explodierst er/sie/es explodiert wir explodieren ihr explodiert sie, Sie explodieren Das Auto explodiert. Mein Bruder und meine Schwester sind explodieren. Explodierst du? *note: some verbs that have -ten and -den stems are conjugated the same way as other regular verbs, but the -t or -d changes to a -et in the er/sie/es and ihr form, and -est in the du form. Ex 1 (-ten): arbeiten (to work) Ich arbeite Du arbeitest er/sie/es arbeitet wir arbeiten ihr arbeitet sie, Sie arbeiten Ex 2 (-den): finden (to find) Ich finde Du findest er/sie/es findet wir finden ihr findet sie, Sie finden Some example sentences: Anja singt sehr schön. Ich trinke ein Glas Wein. Woher kommst du? Wir machen nichts. Machst du es? /~-~-~-I'm trying to help explain German verb conjugation; if you have any questions or see any mistakes, feel free to ask and/or correct me :) -~-~-~\ | |

| modal verbs - ***Note: The first three modals (dürfen, können, mögen ) have a vowel change to "a", müssen drops the umlaut, sollen has no vowel change, and wollen changes to an "i" only in the singular. ***Also note that first and third persons in the singular have no conjugated endings. Then the plural goes back to the original form and conjugated as normal. ***The ich form matches the er/sie/es form as well. Ich fahre heute zur Schule. (I'm driving to school today)[ fahren being the action verb.] with werden: Ich werde heute zur Schule fahren. with möchten: Ich möchte heute zur Schule fahren. | |

| - Hi Nikki! I believe there may be a small error with the following:
Mein Bruder und meine Schwester sind explodieren.
sind explodieren appears to be incorrect. If you're looking to translate the plural form (where there are two or more people or objects involved), the correct sentence would be:
Mein Bruder und meine Schwester explodieren.
Incidentally, the verb explodieren is an irregular verb. I didn't know this until I looked it up in my trusty Langenscheidt's dictionary. :-) Also, I most certainly hope that your brother and your sister do not spontaneously combust. ;-) I like what you're doing here with the verb conjugations. Let me know if I can be of any assistance! -Tina | |
