Italian false friends - false cognates - Hi everybody, :)
As you may know, there are some English words that are “false friends” (or “false cognates” ) to Italian words, that is words that look similar but have different meanings.
Here are some examples:

“Parents” in Italian is “genitori”. The Italian word “parenti” means “relatives”.
“Argument” in Italian is “discussione”, “litigio”. The Italian word “argomento” means “subject”.
“Brave” in Italian is “coraggioso”. The Italian word “bravo” means “good”.
“Actually” in Italian is “in realtà”. The Italian word “attualmente” means “at present”.

Can you find some other ones? Not only English words, of course…

Ciao a tutti, :)

Come forse già sapete, ci sono alcune parole inglesi che sono “false amiche” di parole italiane, cioè sembrano simili ma hanno siginficati diversi.
Ecco alcuni esempi:
“Parents” in Italiano si dice “genitori”. La parola italiana “parenti” significa “relatives”.
“Argument” in Italiano si dice “discussione”, “litigio”. La parola italiana “argomento” significa “subject”.
“Brave” in Italiano si dice “coraggioso”. La parola italiana “bravo” significa “good”.
“Actually” in Italiano si dice “in realtà”. La parola italiana “attualmente” significa “at present”.

Sapreste trovarne altre? Naturalmente non solo parole inglesi…

- I have one. In Serbian, "Pijaca" is bazaar, market, or agora, and in Italian, Piaza (or Piaca?) is something like town square... Im not sure how to write this Italian word, but think you'll understand what I mean...
