why are you learning Italian? - Hi everybody, :)

I see many views to my posts but no replies. Perhaps you are afraid to speak?

Now I have another question for you, it’s quite easy, let’s see if there are some answers:

I’m interested in knowing why you are learning Italian.

You can answer in both English and Italian.
If you write in Italian, don’t care about mistakes. I will correct you.

Bye! ;)
Carla

Ciao a tutti, :)

Vedo che molti leggono i miei post ma nessuno risponde. Forse avete paura di parlare?

Ho un’altra domanda per voi, è facile, vediamo se qualcuno mi risponde.

Mi interessa sapere perché state imparando l’Italiano.

Potete rispondere sia in Italiano che in Inglese.
Se scrivete in italiano, non preoccupatevi di fare errori, vi correggerò.

Ciao! ;)
Carla

- Salve Carla,

Io voglio studiare l'italiano. Lo posso capire ma non lo parlo molto bene. Io voglio studiare l'italiano perche mi piacciono molto le lingue straniere e anche perche io lavoro in un albergo e ho bisogno dell'italiano per parlare con i miei clienti.

I've just started to learn Italian, so I think I've made some mistakes here, so please correct me :)

Grazie mille

Ciao

Hi Goran, ;)
your italian is quite good, I have only few corrections:

Lo posso capire => better: Lo capisco

mi piacciono molto lingue straniere => mi piacciono molto le lingue straniere (usually the article is required before nouns)

ho bisogno l'italiano => ho bisogno dell'italiano (here "l'italiano" is not direct object, it requires the preposition)

con il miei clienti => con i miei clienti

Thanks for your reply, I hope to see you on this discuss again.

Bye!
:)
Carla

Ciao Goran, ;)

Ciao!
:)
Carla

Hi Laima, :)
whereas you have been learning Italian for two months only, you are doing very well!
Be sure that your message was absolutely comprehensible. ;)

Here are few corrections:

io studio l'italiano da due mesi (or ho iniziato a studiare l’italiano due mesi fa), quindi capisco e parlo molto poco.
Penso che l'italiano sia una lingua bellissima.

Notice that after opinion verbs (like pensare, credere) you should use subjunctive tense

to see explanations about subjunctive tense, see the following link:
http://www.uvm.edu/~cmazzoni/3grammatica/grammatica/subjunctive.html

you can find italian verb conjugations here:

http://www.garzantilinguistica.it

Thanks for you reply

Bye,
Carla ;)

Ciao Laima, :)

http://www.uvm.edu/~cmazzoni/3grammatica/grammatica/subjunctive.html

Why I'm learning Italian - Living in Rome and desperate to be able to communicate. It's been a source of frustration for myself and my Italian boyfriend. Have found the language somewhat easier to understand than to speak. Would like to find a network in Rome that would allow for me to learn Italian and meet others - feeling isolated and would like to make a life for myself that doesn't rely on my significant other.

Good Austin, :) just a few corrections:

Ciao Carla,
Sai già perché sto studiando l'italiano. Lo studio perché amo questa lingua. Inoltre , se so parlarlo correntemente, allora posso parlare con alcune persone interessanti , come te! the words “inoltre” and “e poi” are more appropriate in this context.

be careful when according adjectives to nouns. Adjectives must have the same gender (masculine /feminine) and number (singular/plural) of the nouns they are referring to.

riuscire requires the preposition “a” (it becomes “ad” if it preceeds a word starting with a vowel)

As well as in French, the vowel “e” can take two kinds of accents in Italian: grave accent (è) and acute accent (é). They have a different pronunciation.
I’ll start another thread about accents. For now, just keep in mind that the conjunctions “perché”, “poiché”, “finché” are all written with the acute accent.

Ciao! ;)

- I want to learn Italian partly because I love learning foreign languages. The biggest reason is because in October I'm going on a 16 day transatlantic cruise and I'll be spending the most time in Rome. I already know quite a bit of Spanish from high school so now I only have to learn Italian.

Hi Jan,
Your italian is fairly good. Your mistakes are mostly about genders or singular/plural.
Remember:
insegnare = to teach
imparare = to learn

- Ciao,

That's about the limit of my knowledge in italian. My main reason for learning is i need a second language to be accepted into a university. As a canadian were taught french through most of grade school. However not one of my teachers was fluent in it and i found myself being taught the names or barn yard animals and sea creatures right up through high school. I couldnt speak a sentence in it if i tryed and thats after 10 yrs. I would desperatly like to learn italian as my second language as i have always wanted to visit italy. Could some please help?

- I want to learn Italian because I'm going to Italy this summer and I have a family reunion in Philly this May.
I'm having trouble pronouncing words, especially knowing when to accent a word. My Italian learners' book said to accent a word when there are 2 of the same letter side-by-side. I also don't know certain plural and singular forms of words. What are ways that can make this easier for me?
TaniHissatsuFriday 18th of March 2005 07:12:51 AM
I know nothing. - I know absolutely no italian, and i think it is a beautiful language. ^_^ Hence, the learning. I already have some french and a tad of japanese, and when i was little I knew some italian (my mom's italian and used to speak it, so i picked some up then) but i don't know anything anymore. ^_^;

When talking about a past action in Italian we mostly use passato prossimo (auxiliary + past participle). Passato remoto also fits here but it's not very common.
Imperfetto is used for actions that used to happen regularly in the past.

Feel free to ask me if you have any questions.

Carla ;)

Why I am learning Italian.... - I am going to Italy at the end of September and would like to be able to speak the language as well as read it. I am also planning on moving to Italy sometime in the next year so again the knowledge would be helpful along with the ability to write it.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

- This site is great for learning things in Italian, but www.bbc.co.../../languages is also a great website. It has a whole private lessons that you can take for no cost. You might also want to go to Barnes and Noble and pick up Berlitz's Self-teacher for Italian and also Italian in Ten Minutes a Day. If you only want to buy one, I'd get Berlitz. E anche bene avvere familgia italiana.

Why I want to learn Italian - I would love to learn Italian b/c, like everyone else, I would like to visit there one day. I would love to eventually move there. It would be rude of me not to know the language. Plus, it is a beautiful language.

- I can't write enough in Italian (I do know Spanish very well, though!). I know a handful of phrases and vocabulary, but that's about it.

I want to learn Italian for a few different reasons, mostly for translation. I have enjoyed reading Dante Alighieri's works, and want to read them in the original language. I also enjoy seeing and listening to opera, and it would be nice to understand what I'm singing or listening to! Italian is such a beautiful language that I believe it will serve me well to learn it.
