japanese anime subtitles? - Does anyone know, is there any place where one could get _japanese_ subtitles (for anime, or even for japanese movies?)

english subtitles seem to be quite plentiful, but there should be japanese ones somewhere out there as well...

- Your best bet might be to search for an official 台本(だいほん)online someplace. Regarding subtitles, I haven't any idea, so you're on your own. Was there a particular movie you were searching for?

- Some fansubbing groups will make a transcript of the Japanese dialog and then translate it to English. Most simply translate straight to an English transcript though. You could get in touch with various fansubbing groups and see if they could provide you with any Japanese transcripts. I know that I read about one or two groups who had and would share these, although it's been a while and I don't remember the specific groups. Good luck!

- While I'm not one of those anime otaku folks, I have myself enjoyed a couple of the Miyazaki/Ghibli flicks, and as such have run into a few related sites during my online escapades. One of the most noteworthy is the annotated script to もののけ姫, Princess Mononoke: http://www.mv.com/users/ctwilkes/

Also in my possession (by the grace of a fine friend) is the official script to 「千と千尋の神隠し」Spirited Away, of which I'll happily transcribe a few passages if you're interested.

Again, aside from that, I haven't any idea.

Thanks! this is nice (even though they have the japanese script only for half the movie).

That's great. I definitely would greatly appreciate if I could get a copy of that (or just of the dialogue), too.
The American DVDs of Spirited Away I saw did not have japanese subtitles. I wonder if I could get japanese market dvds off say amazon.co.jp and if those have the subs (some dvds definitely have them, as seen, for example, here: http://tokidoki-eigo.splinder.com/post/3514295 ).

There are also lots of subtitle ripping programs out there and this is where english subtitles to all the movies come from. I suspect the japanese might have some local subtitle sites as well, but my knowledge of japanese is not yet sufficient to find those... i wonder what p2p network is most popular in japan, i know there is a program called winny but i am not sure if there are any files with just subtitles there... i guess i can try...

I'm also a huge fan of Miyazaki/Ghibli work, but other anime subs would be great too... .hack//sign, evangelion, rurouni kenshin and many others come to mind... looking around for the fansubbing groups is a good idea, thanks!

- Since you're talking of imports, can I safely assume your'e aware of region encoding? Japanese and other east Asian DVDs, if I'm not mistaken, are region 2, so you will either need a workaround for US hardware or a seperate player to support them.

The script that I have is practically a book in and of itself. It contains not only complete dialogue (including even the cute キッキッキッ of the susuwatari) but also vivid descriptions of every scene and camera movement. They are paper copies, so I cannot simply e-mail them to you. I've thought about doing a site similar to that online annotated mononoke script, but it has yet to become a reality. In the meantime, however, I could transcribe short bits of dialogue if you'd like. Or, if you can think of any alternatives, feel free to PM me.
