| I laughed - Click here to start learning Norwegian. I laughed, I cried, these Santas took me for a ride! ![]() I can be written off as a tremendous loather of just about every Reality TV Programme, but this one slipped through my RTV-Radar. Put a pack of people in Norway together in a Jul scene, dress them up as Santas and put them through a concoctive litany of crazy tasks and what do you have? A pretty decent programme for learners of Norsk. Why? First of, RTV programmes try to build tension, so they often repeat what was just spoken, in a slow, clear, and direct manner. Second, the RTV format interviews each contestant throughout the show. There are lots of chances to try out reading and listening to greetings, and personal interviews such as where people come from, what they do for a living, etc.--typical language learner stuff. Third, you get to see some culture expressed in the forms of Jul time traditions from Norway as they try to exaggerate the slap-stick nature of the show. And forth, its just plain silly enough to captivate the attention and focus of a language learner. Most RTVs are just plain dumbed-down, you don't even have to speak the language to enjoy the show.
