Norwegian Class -
Admin Edit: We have an official Norwegian Class which has a post in the Class Meetings discuss on Phrasebase. Click HERE to read that post for meeting schedules and assignments. -- Peter

i think there was talk of it in another thread but would this ever happen Peter? i've never been in the Classroomroom here but do they have one just for norwegian? maybe we could do it on MSN.. you can use microphones on MSN and those are cheap to buy. maybe we could each have a dictionary and a grammar book for a reference or whatever. i'm totally making this up as i go.. but do you think this would be a plausible idea?
krs240Monday 31st of January 2005 05:51:57 AM
- Im definately up for it too. Lately I havent had much time to be studying, but a scheduled class could really help me. I havent been in the Classroom room either, but msn sounds good.
Peter fra LAMonday 31st of January 2005 06:06:51 AM
- MSN is fine for me.

Skype is the offical PB sanctioned applet but I am not sure eveyone has one yet.

So far I have had requests for a day on the Weekends (USA). If most of the group will be in USA then our time would revolve around those time zones.

Pathfinder05Monday 31st of January 2005 06:13:53 AM
- I would love the class too. I wouldn't miss a single meeting.
eric151Monday 31st of January 2005 06:22:57 AM
- if it'll be during the weekends then i think Sunday would probably be the best day.. since everyone is out and about on saturday doing things.. but that's just me.
stjerneMonday 31st of January 2005 06:27:47 AM
- Msn is good for me too.

As I mentioned on the other thread anyday is fine for me except Tuesday eves when I go to norwegian class.

feel free to add me to your msn list if you wish :) DustBunny1_2002@hotmail.com

- Heres my schedule. Im in the central timezone by the way.

Monday: After 12:30 untill 6, then after 8:30 till whenever
Tuesday: all day untill 4:30, then after 9:00
Wednesday: 12:30 untill 3:30, then 7:00 till whenever.
Thursday: Free untill 7:30, then 9:30 till whenever
Friday: Free the rest of the day after 4:30pm
Saturday: changes too often

All times are pm. My msn is ks32561@yahoo.com and Skype is krs240.

EDIT: I would recommend avoiding media mail. I have only ordered through it once, but that was enough to warrant that I never use it again. It was very slow, and I have heard similar comments by others. Seeings how half.com offers prority mail and media, I would suggest to pay the $2 extra and go priority mail.

so we'll be needing those books peter?

if so:
at Amazon http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0299038742/ref=pd_pym_ka/104-5225838-9526330
they offer the 2 books together for $30 bucks or so, i'm not sure if it includes shipping but it would probably be less of a hassle.
krs240Monday 31st of January 2005 11:14:26 AM
- Most orders on amazon that are over $25 include free shipping. Only certain items qualify, but both of those books do. I have ordered from amazon twice, and they suprised me with their quickness. Theyve got alot of cool clothes on there too...
Peter fra LAMonday 31st of January 2005 12:19:23 PM
- The dictionary is essential. I can help point out how to use it properly and talk about grammar from that. The grammar book will round out any quesions and has a nice chapter titled "Common pitfalls for English speakers" that should be a nice thing to keep around when writing.
Peter fra LAWednesday 02nd of February 2005 01:32:38 AM
- This Sunday, February 6th, 2005 on the USA calendar, will be our first meeting. Even though we all might be waiting on books to be be purchased/shipped we should start our habit of meeting.

I, and Anne have Teach Yourself Norwegian. I have also the dictionary, and the grammar book. I am sure we can learn something until we get fully organized.

Now all we need is to lock in a time! I will keep my schedule flexible.
stjerneWednesday 02nd of February 2005 01:45:03 AM

1. The dictionary is critical to READ or WRITE.
2. Teach Yourself Norwegian is what a lot of people already have. It is a good introduction to READ or WRITE.
3. The grammar book will help you WRITE with few mistakes. In the end you will end up getting this.

Therefore, if an immediate choice of only 2 books is the possibility it would be #1 and #2. You can always pick up #3 down the road when you want to eliminate a lot of writing errors.

To CharonPlu: We went over pronunciation of the dialogues in first chapter of Teach Yourself Norwegian book. Talked a little bit about grammar (nouns).

Welcome to the group. If you have trouble finding a store in Thailand with language books I can ask Jeff for a list of store names that will have them. We are still starting with getting everyone together at the same starting point, which is primarily getting the Teach Yourself Norwegian book.

This is the book information from the amazon website:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0071420150/002-0040777-5420837?v=glance

It is also available with 2 Audio CDs for a little more money if you want to be able to hear the words read out loud.

I made those. I will be a bit late in making the Chapter 2 word sets because I will be San Diego and then San Bernardino. But with our new bi-weekly schedule per chapter it won't be as bad if they are a few days later than usual.

Check your Official Class Scedule (link above) for the latest update to the class meeting.

Vocabulary for Chapter 02, and Word Game for Chapter 01 have been added.

Regarding plain text, the vocabulary is provided in this form in the Teach Yourself Norwegian book already under each example dialogue. The computer based versions are only added for convenience. I mave modified the computer versions, however, to only include stems and singular indefinite forms of nouns as I have started posting some grammar posts on how to make the correct forms.

I am hoping that provided I'm not online by Sunday we can have someone such as DustBunny help host the class meeting. Format is the same, reviews of the dialogues and excercises that follow.

- I can host class if needed, but I don't have book yet.. I would be greatful if someone with the book and a scanner could scan the current chapter or first few pages of it and email it to me.

Please send me a message and I'll reply with my email address.

Thanks.

Teach Yourself Norwegian Book - I'm having trouble getting a copy of the teach yourself norwegian book... my norwegian tutor ordered a copy with audio cd's for everyone in our class but he said that there is a delay. The book is out of publication at the moment. I've checked amazon.com and they say 2-4 weeks shipping on it. Barnes and Noble don't have copies available at this time. Seems they are all waiting on the new version.
eric151Tuesday 01st of March 2005 10:09:39 AM

Sadly the Classroomroom here doesn't work well for me either, it keeps crashing my puter. The class has been held on MSN group Classroom instead.

I am doing cartwheels!

The rains in LA flooded the underground cable system in the area and something shorted out killing my internet. But its working again (keep the fingers crossed). So we should be on for this Sunday.

See you all then!
