Vocabulary game - As I've noticed there're not many people fluent in Polish (excluding the native speakers:p). Most of you just want to start learning. I think the games that are here can be very useful, I participate in similar ones also in the other parts of this discuss. That's why I want ot start another game:D The only thing you have to do is write the Polish word starting with the letter that the previous word ended, give the English translation, and possibly write the sentence using this word.

Example:
stóŁ (table)
Na stole jest pięć talerzy
There are five plates on the table

ŁyżkA (spoon)
Zawsze jem spaghetti łyżką i widelcem.
I always eat spaghetti with a spoon and a fork.

I hope that's comprehensible:D

So I'll start:

my word:

PianinO (piano)
Kiedyś uczyłam się grać na pianinie.
I used to learn playing the piano.

Maybe an online dictionary will be useful:

Kiedyś - some day
Kiedyś będę mogła porozmawiać z Tobą w Twoim ojczystym języku.
Some day I will be able to talk to you in your mother tongue.

- Tutaj: Third

I`m so new to Polish that I will not be able to write any sentences in Polish until several months have flown by!
MartaWednesday 01st of June 2005 11:05:44 PM
- wow!How nice to see you here:D:D:D

'Tutaj' actually means 'here'. 'Third" will be 'trzeci'. Anyway, nice try:D

Oczywiście - Of course

Oczywiście jestem dobrze się czuję
Of course I'm fine (I think, I'm not 100% sure if this is correct!)
MartaFriday 03rd of June 2005 01:00:37 AM

Of course I'm fine (I think, I'm not 100% sure if this is correct!) [/quote]

Should be without 'jestem'=> Oczywiscie dobrze sie czuje.

Ekran - screen

Siedze przed ekranem komputera juz druga godzine.
I'm sitting in front of the computer screen already 2nd hour.

- nadmorski - seaside

lubię żeby iść do nadmorski (wybrzeże) kiedy to jest gorące pogoda (atmosferyczny)

W Języku angielskim: I like to go to the seaside when it is hot weather.
wasilSunday 26th of June 2005 01:20:16 AM
- po polsku raczej by to zabrzmiało:

Lubie iść nad morze kiedy jest gorąco.

nadmorski to może być kurort, teren itp.
raczej sporadycznie spotkamy ludzi którzy mówią "gorąca pogoda", lepiej mówić kiedy jest gorąco, albo bardziej pospolicie, "kiedy słońce miło grzeje" :)
MartaSunday 26th of June 2005 01:44:14 AM
- Ok, since Wasil didn't post a new word I'll do it instead:p

Inaczej (differently from, in another way)

Moja siostra zawsze robi wszystko inaczej niż ja.
My sister always does everything in a different way from me.
wasilMonday 27th of June 2005 01:49:11 AM
- pokój (room, peace)

Wolę iść z kolegami na impreze, niż sprzątać pokój, kiedy mamy miły pogodny wieczór.

I prefer to go out with my friends and have a party, rather than to clean room, when we have nice, bright, afternoon. (correct?)

mam nadzieje, że próba rehabilitacji za to że w poprzendim poście nie napisałem regulaminowego zdania i słówka zostanie mi wybaczona ;).
MartaMonday 27th of June 2005 04:47:56 PM
- taaa... próba udana;)

jesień (autumn)

Nie cierpię jesieni, przypomina mi tylko szkołę i depresję:/
I can't stand autumn, it reminds mi only about school and depression:/

Wasil, ja na pewno nie podejmę się próby poprawiania Twojego angielskiego:)Poczekaj na nativa:D

Yeah, I think you can write n instead, no problem:D

=>niebieskie - that's plural form, e.g. Mam niebieskie oczy -I have blue eyes
=>niebieski - that's singular, masculine form. Therefore, Niebieski jest kolorem

I'll take your 'e' as a last letter:

emeryt - old-age pensioner

Mam nadzieję, że jak będę już emerytką to będę miała czas, siły i pieniądze na podróże.
I hope that when I'm an old-age pensioner I'll have time, strength and money for travelling.

tony123456Saturday 02nd of July 2005 06:49:48 AM
- marta this another thing, mam means (to have) then how can you put it in for to hope, isnt there anothere word better to use there? is ther a nother word for hope??
MartaSaturday 02nd of July 2005 06:52:26 AM
- mieć nadzieję = to hope
You're right, literaly it means 'I have hope' which is quite logical for me:p

I don't know any other verb that can be used here, instead of 'mam nadzieję'. It's just a fixed collocation.
tony123456Saturday 02nd of July 2005 07:01:55 AM
- these things throw off a pearson fairly new to polish!lol

MartaSaturday 02nd of July 2005 07:04:18 AM
- awww I'm so sorry! Don't give up:D What I meant to say is: Polish is the easiest language ever, just try and you'll love it:D Is it better now?

Don't foget the game!
The word 'emeryt' - 'old-age pensioner' still stands!
tony123456Saturday 02nd of July 2005 10:50:40 AM
- (emeryt)-old pensionir------tlumaczenie-translation Dokladny tlumaczenie z(od) angielsku do(na) polski jest trudny!
MartaSaturday 02nd of July 2005 05:04:16 PM
- *Dokładne tłumaczenie z angielskiego na polski jest trudne.

egzemplarz - copy, number

Mogę dostać jeden egzemplarz pani najnowższej książki?
Can I get one copy of your latest book?
tony123456Sunday 03rd of July 2005 12:35:37 AM
- wow ,i was only off a few things in my sentence!Istill knew i had something wrong in there!,lol

MartaSunday 03rd of July 2005 09:03:09 PM
- Tony, it was quite good!

Next person should start with 'rz'. Alternatively with 'z';)
