Consonant Pronunciation - I have recently started to learn Portuguese on my own and have learned quite a few words and numbers. The problem I have is I don't understand WHY I'm pronouncing things the say that I am. Vowels I understand, but consonants are the problem. All my materials say "A single consonant is pronounced with the following vowel" Can someone explain to me what that actually means? For example, the letter T sometimes sounds like T and sometimes has a CH sound. The letter D sometimes sounds like D and sometimes sounds like G (or J). I just don't seem to understand how to determine the sounds of consonants. Thanks for any help anyone is able to provide.

UPDATE... - After reading throug a few hours of web sites, posts, etc. I have found a web site that actually does a very good job of explaining this. http://www.geocities.com/email_theguy/newportweb/pronouncing_brazilian.htm I see that this URL has been posted on this forum before for online tutorials but thought I would post it here as well in case someone stumbled upon this posting looking for the same information.
