| Por Favor - Ola, Is there someone out there who would be interested in helping me with Portuguese? I speak English well. My name is Jeremy Alexander Brown, minha mae didnt give me a Portuguese name :( so sometimes I adopt the name Gonsalves. | Your name would be: - Oi Jeremy, first of all I think that name you souldn´t translate because name its name and that´s it. But anyway your name would be: Jeremy in Brasil its not so common, but we have "Jeremias" Alexander also its not so common we have "Alexandre" and Brown if the meaning its the same as the color "Marrom" SO: (JEREMIAS ALEXANDRE MARROM). | Still about your name - Hi jbrownsoas, I think your mother´s maiden name is Gonçalves ("cedilla" instead of "s"), this is my family name too :-) The other possible form is the spanish "Gonzalez" (in fact, it´s the original form, it means "son of Gonzalo"). Any other form is very probably a spelling error. Adding up to what elisse wrote: your name should be "Jeremias Alexandre Castanho". I had a friend in the university whose name was "Castanho". About the word "marrom", there´s something interesting... "Marrom" is a more common translation for english "Brown", but it certainly isn´t a portuguese name. It´s a french word ("marron", the "n" became "m" in the portuguese form), and that means "chestnut brown", or "the color of the chestnut". But "chestnut" in portuguese is... "castanha". So "marrom" and "castanho" means exactly the same thing (a color), but "castanho" is much more "portuguese" :-) Hope that helps. jrcls | |
