- This is a pretty good website that I came across a while back. It has samples of songs, including their lyrics in Russian (Cyrillic and Transliterated) and English.

B-Dva, Splin, Zveri and Zemfira are a few of my favorites.

- Try http://www.russia-in-us.com/Music/

It's got Russian music of all genres. My favorite singer is Dmitry Malikov. he's in the rock section, but he sounds more pop than rock.

Source for Russian Music - There is a great site for Russian music at: www.allofmp3.com

It is a russian company and it is safe to use your credit card there. I have been a member for a year or so now. The cost for downloading is $.02/MB. A typical CD will cost about $2.40 for the whole thing! You will need at least a DSL connection to use it efficiently. I have spent over $100 there and am VERY happy!

Russian music - I have been listening to Russian radio on internet for a couple months now. Is it my imagination or is there a huge drop in talent after Zemfira?
DmitryFriday 06th of May 2005 10:37:41 PM
- I think there could be no such thing as a drop in talents in any culture at all, and a lot of persons and bands have became widely known in Russia after Zemfira /Группа "Ленинград", Глюкоза as the most prominent examples/. It seems to be a matter of taste which of them are considered to be talents by you or by me... But there appeared a phenomenon that I consider to be a disaster as well; and that's the bunch of so called "stars" from "Star factory". They filled up all the media last years and it is terrible, yes
:(

- My little list (incomplete, just a couple of names I remember):
Aquarium (Аквариум) - sort of a cross between rock-n-roll and ethnic, very old group but still delivers.
Mumiy Troll (Муми-Тролль) - naughty but nice
Nogu svelo (Ногу свело) - do not know what to say, I just like them.
Melnica (Мельница (www.melnitsa.net) ) - ethnic music, again, I just like their songs.

Барды / Bards - Мне кажется, что если изучать русский язык серьезно и во всем его богатстве, лучше всего слушать бардов.
It seems to me, that to study Russian seriously in and to enrich it in high extend, you need to listen to bards.
Их язык, с одной стороны, очень богат и разнообразен, а с другой -- весьма живой.
On the one hand their language is rich and diverse, on the other -- living.

Некоторые имена/ Some names:
Александр Галич
Александр Городницкий
Александр Суханов
Булат Окуджава
Евгений Клячкин
Вадим Егоров
Владимир Высоцкий.
