Turkey's currency - Hello! I have noticed that Turkey has 'Lira' and 'New Lira' as currencies and am wondering which of these is used today (if not both)? And, if only New Lira is used, when was the Lira no longer used?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

- Hi!

New Lira has been in circulation since 01/01/2005. During the year 2005 both TL and YTL will concurrently be in circulation. For more info :

- Ah, excellent information zappie! Thanks. I hope to obtain some Turkish Lira before they all disappear. I think a 1,000,000 note would be cool to have (as I like to collect foreign currencies (esp. coins).
