Cause I am in UK at the moment and wanna learn Turkish very much, I am from Uzbekistan. As you know it is very similar, I know lots of Turkish words , can understand some sentences, but don't have basic knowlege, grammar, etc. But the problem is that I am not in London, I am just on north of it, I visit London very often. But can't commute there. Isn't it possible to learn Turkish through another way. I will be looking forward to getting your answer. Thanx indeed. | |

| Greetings - Hi bonu, I`m very happy to see you want to learn Turkish. In this topic I have given all information I know about online sources. In the future I hope I can put some learning material on the internet which I have written myself so others can use it too. Currently this seems to be going to take some time. I have written you a PM. Check your messages. magdalenaa_b and hamdi, I hope to contact you in the future when I can send you some texts with e-mail. Currently I cant help you via messangers or Classroom. I belive this Classroom strategy is useless for turkish. Just forget about pronunciation until you can read some basic texts easly. All you need is a dictionary and easy enough reading material and some very basic grammer. Cheers. | |

| learning Turkish - Hi! I wanted to ask if I might take you up on your offer of help, although I'm in the U.S. I am *starving* to learn Turkish, but I'm not sure where to start. Do you think that, in my case, joining the yahoo groups you suggested would be a good starting point? I just want to get started as soon as possible! Thank you so much for your help. God bless. | - Hi Jill, I`m happy to see you want to learn Turkish. I think as a Turkish learner the things you should do are as important as the things you shouldnt. So just forget about anything you have in mind related to learning a language. Find yourself some simple turkish books and a dictionary and there you go. Thats all you will need for at least 6 month. I strongly suggest ignoring any efford on pronunciation. Even if you cant talk a word just be patient for a few months. The story books would be best if there had been any speacially written for turkish learners. But I have nothing to suggest. I do write some very simple stories for educational purposes but have no time to put them on computer and on the internet. You could try to find some kid`s books with big print and drawings. The less words per page the better at the beginning. If you like reading books this strategy might work for you. Soon you should see you cant find all the words in the dictionary. Thats because turkish has many suffixes at the end of the words. If you keep reading even if you dont understand each and every words with time you will also learn teh basic suffixes on your own. So the dictionary work is also good for many reasons. For those who are familiar with computers I dont suggest using an online dictionary. A printed dictionary will allow you to take a close attention to the words, letters and little differences. You will spend lots of time keeping the words in mind without even realising it. So look for all unknown words in the dictionary. If you dont understand the content still keep going. | |
