Poetry=Shi'er: This is one of my favourit poetries! :D
إذا الشعب يوما أراد الحياة
etha alsha'bo yawman arad alhayah
if a nation wanted life
فلابد أن يستجيب القدر
falaboda ann yastajeeba alqadar
Fate will surley agree (like help them get what they want)
ولابـد لليـل أن ينجلي
wa laboda lellyli ann yanjali
then night will surely subside
ولابـد للقـيد أن ينكسر
wa laboda lelqadi ann yankaser
and chains will surely break
ومن يتهيب صعود الجبال
wa man yatahyab soo'da aljebal
and he who is afraid of climbing mountains
يعش أبد الدهر بين الحفر
ya'esh abada aldahry bayna alhofar
will live all his life (between hofar means holes in the groud) it means that he will live a poor life kinda thing!
I'm sure my translation isn't as good as the real thing but maybe u can share some of your favourites. by the way this one is written by abu alqassem al shabi :)

more poetry: احذر عدوك مرة واحذر صديقك ألف مرة
ehthar adowaka mara wa ehthar sadeeqak alfa mara
beware of ur enemy one time and beware of ur friend a thousand times
فلربما انقلب الصديـ ـق فكان أعلم بالمضرة
falarobama enqalaba alsadeeq fakana a'alama belmadarah
since ur friend may one day become ur enemy and he'll know how to hurt u

nxt is a fantastic poem I'm not gonna translate it coz i don't wanna ruin it!
تذكرت ليلى و السنين الخواليـــا
و أيام لا نخشى على اللهو ناهيـــــا
فليت ركاب القوم لم تقطع الغضا
و ليت الغضا ماشى الركاب لياليـــــا
و قد يجمـــع الله الشتيتين بعدما
يظنـــــان كــل الظـــن: أن لا تلاقيــــا
لحـــى الله أقوام يقولون: إننــــــا
و جدنـــا طول الدهـــر للحب شافيــــا
خليلـــي: لا و الله لا أملـــك الذي
قضى الله في ليلى و لا ما قضى بيا
قضاهـــا لغيري و ابتلاني بحبهــــا
فهــلا بشـــيء غــــير ليلـــى ابتلانيــــا
فيـــا رب، سو الحب بيني و بينهـا
يكــــون كفافــــــاً ، لا علـــي و لا ليـــــا
فأشهد عنـــد اللــــهٍ أنـــي أحبهــا
فهذا مـــا لها عندي ، فما عندها ليـــا ؟
أحـب مـن الأسماء ما وافق اسمها

ok maybe i'll just tell u what it means. The poet's name is Qais and he loved his cousin Lyla, but in the old days it wasn't allowed for a guy to tell a girl he loved her b4 marriage.... so Qais wrote poetry about Lyla and Lyla's dad heard about it soooo he didn't allow them to get married! so Qais who is already crazy about her becomes more crazy!!!!
this poem means: I remembered Lyla and the old days when we used to play together as kids and no one would mind and maybe God will reunit those who were seperated after they thouhgt they'll not meet again
and I swear to God i love her so that's what i have for her (like those are my emotions towards her). what does she have for me
I love of the names her name or names that r similar to her name
i didn't translate the whole thing coz i'm lazy :D

hehe it's ok. sometimes it's hard to translate from arabic to english and vice versa anyway lol but that's a nice poem :D

ahlan beech, you didn't put in the best part (to me :D ) kays and layla are exactly like romeo and juillet in the west people ;)

if you open up Microsoft Paint, you can stretch images. so press CTRL+W and under "Stretch" change 100% to a smaller percentage...try saving it at 50% until it's at a good size :) but don't make it too small...you can't change it afterwards.
do you want me to try to do it?

عن الهوى يسكن النار

كنت مثل السديم ، استوى في يديه

زها بي وغنوا الأغاني بأشعاره
فما كان لي أن أقدر هل أشعلني أم طفاني

عن جنةٍ بين عيني ضاعت
عن هواءٍ أسعف الطير واستخف بنا واصطفانا

I’ll tell you about kays
About the love that lives in fire
About a poet that gave me a shape with his love
About the colour, the name and scent
About the ending and beginning
I was like a fog, forming in his hands
He attracted me to him
I left the people to be with him
He showed me off with pride and they sang the happy songs and poems
I couldn’t know whether he lite me or put me out
I’ll tell you about kays
About the lost heaven that was between my eyes
About the love that cured the birds and that made us laugh
About everything he said that made me get lost in him
And I showed off so that we could celebrate the mixture
About the romance that feed us all
And it filled the gulf
hehe ok people that's my favourite part when translating it into english it kinds of loses it's ironic meaning :( but oh well that's the main problems with poems! :D

it's really nice safiah but i don't understand why did you say :
هو محمد مصطفى عليه الصلاة والسلام
usually in the middle east we always say
هو محمد رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم
and by saying
اجعل الدنيا حرام علينا
you mean make life/ the world a sin for us? =s
we usually want it halal =s....
otherwise the poem is really nice :)

أنا مسرورة جدا ان تحبين شعري
I was trying to say keep me from loving this world so much so that I don't yearn for the next life with Allah. And for the other line I was just writing salawaat in another way but if it is not correct I won't write it that way.
