from reading all the posts there are soooooo many people who'd like to learn arabic. i tried answering all of them but i couldn't :) i was thinking about it and i got this idea from the french forum so sorry for stealing it :D if you all are serious about learning arabic we could sheducle a class once a week live chat. in skype as we could all join in one conversation and have audio conversations. so what do you people think?
Regards,
Reem :)

and there is an arabic saying that says:

Hello, I've only just joined today (about 2 minutes ago :P). I think this is a great idea, but I can't really say when I'll be available just yet. It would definitely have to be in the daytime, and only during the week really. The trouble is, I don't actually know any Arabic yet :) So holding a conversation isn't exactly realistic where I'm concerned :D Anyway, you should tell us, when would be a good time for YOU?

Remy
Sunday 19th of June 2005 12:52:40 AM
welcome aboard SDCripps! it's ok i was actually thinking of dividing the class into two one for complete beginners and the second for non beginners. i'm free during the weedend (don't forget people that the weekend in the middle east is thursday and friday) during the entire week i'm free at night so i was thinking 6pmGMT or would you all prefer 4pm GMT. or are the mornings better??? :)

medway
Wednesday 22nd of June 2005 03:28:15 PM
false beginner: I'vve been around the Gulf for years as an English teacher, but I've never got off the ground with arabic, possibly because I'm lazy or because I function in english all day. Whatever...
I'm willing to give it a go if people want to practice some conversational phrases online, and if Reem is gong to monitor us.

Remy
Wednesday 22nd of June 2005 03:33:58 PM
thanks medway ;) so glad to have someone like you to give me hope lol i actually started to lose hope! and it's normal many europeans face the same problem it's because in the gulf people speak english whether it's in the market or the roads, the malls and even us natives we mix arabic and english when we speak. anyway everyone i was thinking of starting the classes on friday. 6pmGMT on skype. add me if you want to join everyone's welcome! my skype id is simpleremy. see ya
salam,
reem

Really, I just started learning Arabic, and I'm pretty good so far, but I need something like what Remy is talking about, a Live chat, to pratice on the speaking level. Anyone who is a native speaker is a BIG BONUS for this. I'm availible at almost anytime (considering I am on summer vacation from college, Lol) anyway great idea!

Remy
Thursday 23rd of June 2005 04:38:14 PM

Hm...I am interested in joining you guys...being a complete and bloody beginner (british slang)...I would need something to start with the basic arabic alphabet...but at the same time going on the conversational arabic wouldn't be a bad idea, right?

So, when again would that be on skype at which AMERICAN (USA) time (like EST, CST, MST, PST)???

hi chris! welcome to phrasebase! :)

in this particular forum it's the original arabic which yes you can call the modern standard arabic which is understood by every arab in the world.

there are two other dialects forum but not this one you can find them in their own section which is the egyption and lebanese. although we're all ready to help you with everything you want :)

New student: Salaam alaikum Remy, and everyone else,

I am newly starting out in Arabic, again, and interested in the lessons.

I've tried learning it before but always fell short because I had no feedback over how I was doing.

I also have a question, has anyone here ever read any books in Arabic?

remy
Friday 02nd of September 2005 09:02:51 PM
hi zimazk and murtaza!

welcome to phrasebase! i'm back from my vacation and ready to restart the lessons. i'd be very happy to help everyone and i thought about it a lot and i think that the skype thingy is too complicated adding and all that stuff that's why i've decided to conduct the lessons here on phrasebase in the classroom section. i will ask anya when can we reserve the classroom for the use of the arabic class and will post the time and days here. it'll be like before once every week for an hour. :)

cheers,
Remy.

P.S. thanks murtaza for the feedback i'm glad you like what we're doing! :)

How do I go on the classes? I went into the classroom and I saw your name there, but I couldn't go any further. Do I have to download something? I really want to try to make it....Also, I'm in Melbourne Australia (7.30pm) what time do you have the class for absolute beginers?

Andrea

remy
Thursday 08th of September 2005 09:22:46 PM
hi andrea,
the classes are as you said if you go in and see people talking then you're in the class. if they talk about everyday life then a class is not being given, so people are just using it as a chat room. if you see a language going on then it's a class. if you try to get in and see a red light that means the classroom is full and that you need to refresh the page until you can get in.

i was thinking every friday what does everyone thing? in the evening or in the mornings tell me what time is sutiable so that i can reserve the classroom for us. that goes to everyone :)
