Tradition Day: Tradition Day (Día de la Tradición): it´s our country's great gaucho festival. November 10 is the anniversary of Jose Hernandez´s birth date, one of the nation's most important poets who highlighted the injustices and hardships of the ordinary people of his day. Tradition Day is the climax of a week or so of parties, concerts, gaucho parades, traditional music, feasts and other festivities across the country.

Below u can see some gaucho tap dance (malambo) to the rhythm of drums.

One element that is often used to acompany malambo are the "boleadoras" (Boleadoras is a weapon consisting of two or three rock hard leather balls o round rocks covered with leather, tied to a rope which gauchos used for hunting. They hurled the weapon at the legs of the animal, preventing it from running away. Here we see how they are hit on the floor to the rhythm of the drumbs)

Carrera de sortija: The "sortija" is a ring. Carrera de sortija translates as "race for the ring", which is a typical competition among countrymen, and was one of the games gauchos would engage in. It consists in trying to get a ring from a kind of frame at high speed on horseback.

Typical countyside dance: To the rhythm of drums and guitars.

Today, children at schools stage this kind of dance and dress up as "gauchos and chinas" (the china was the gaucho´s wife), celebrating Tradition Day, a time to remeber our roots.
