Danish Learning Grou -
Come on guys!

Time to get together to form your Danish learning group.

Post a day and time of the week that works best for you to meet and practice online in chat with other students, agree on a set of books to use in common, and get started!

You may want to reference the Swedes, they have a head start on you:

- I'm keen, although GMT+12 (or +13 at the moment with daylight savings) probably won't work well with a lot of people... (ie. North Americans)

- Hehe. I was just thinking of this yesterday. I'm really interessted in learning Danish.

I can come on anyday, in the morning from 4:30 am to 6:00 am, and from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm. I live in the US Central time zone, which is GMT - 6. ** Now, if we study on weekends, I'm more flexible. **

- Ok so far we have a move towards Weekends ( I have Norwegian on Sundays - group hasn't finalized meeting time yet ).

We need to find out what books you are using so everyone that joins in can have the same dictionary/grammar books/teach yourself books as you guys are using.
Pathfinder05Wednesday 02nd of February 2005 08:11:12 AM
- Would the people using the books post what the books says here on the forums, or would we have to buy the book ourselves?
TwizzlaWednesday 02nd of February 2005 11:28:21 AM
- I would imagine we'd list good books and buy em off amazon or something...

- All you Danish students! Here are some suggestions, you guys need to decide on what the group shall use.

I would recommend Teach Yourself Danish as a book that will let you try a variety of learning excercises together:

I would also repeat other suggestions that you do not get the Teach Yourself Danish book alone without any form of Audio product. This is not Norwegian!

Audio Cassette Version

I have not researched dictionaries for the Danish language to learn which is the best out for Danish>English, but I still feel leery with Berlitz and this other one is a new funky non-traditional dictionary format:

Grammar book, looks like a bit pricey but very good review:

- Hey everybody. I'm really interested in learning Danish. It looks like there's some interest in a weekend group? I'm open for anytime on the weekend if anyone actualy wants to try a group thing. I horrible at sticking to a schedule though. And is there anyone that actually speaks Danish that is willing to help if we end up making a group chatroom thing?
I just got a "Teach yourself Danish" book with the CD's. and that's it for now.

- Hey mate,

There are a few Danes around.. Freja, Jenkie... both seem to be pretty helpful & friendly. Who is your "teach yourself danish" set by? I just picked up "Danish in 3 months" from the library today, by Hugo. I'll let you all know if its any good :D

I'm in! - Hej Peter, hej Ulven,

Though I don't speak a word of Danish, I do have the book. And as a happy "queen" of the Swedish learning group, I'd like to be a loyal subject of this group here too, if you'll have me. (Reference Ulven's "Danish Resurgence" post if you don't get the royalty thing.)

I look forward to learning with you all, and please let me know if I can be of any assistance. I'd be happy to help out.

See you in the lessons,
Tina

Good Text Books - Ulven,

If I may make a suggestion, perhaps we could work together from the same book, along the lines of what we've been doing in the Swedish forum? Though it would not be necessary for everyone to have the book, it would be an excellent learning aid. I have the following two books, both come with CDs to aid pronunciation, and they would be the two books that would likely get my vote:

or

I like the phrases you've posted so far, and I think you're doing a great job! Keep it up!
