| Hallo - Hey everyone. I would really love to learn Dutch but I just can't find some good sources or people to explain things I don't understand. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you | |

| Confusion #1 - Sometimes I read that the syllable -en is pronounced "uh" but I've heard Dutch people pronounce the -n. Is it a choice like when you say either like "aither" or "eether"? Kind of a stupid question but I guess it's a start, lol. | |

| - Yeah, sort of. You could pronounce 'boeken' like 'boekuh' or like 'boek'n', with the 'n' immediately after the 'k' here. However, that latter use is confined to a smaller regio, I strongly recommend you go for 'uh'. It's no crime to pronounce the 'n' while your at it, it's just that it's not really prominent, you don't really have to press the tip of your tongue behind your teeth like you'd normally would. (Just to overwhelm you with info :p, in synthetic speech they'd make it last only 20 millisec, so that it is there, but very slightly so). It's not a stupid question at all, it's very relevant I'd say.. | |
