English-Dutch Dictionary - Does anyone have any suggestions for a good english-dutch/dutch-english dictionary? Online is fine but I also like to have an actual book too. I have only found one at my local bookstore and I don't like it that much. It doesn't have many of the words I am looking for. Any help would be great!

hey - What I have is the PRISMA dictionary. There was a better dictionary back in the Netherlands that I have been using but I forgot the name... Wat doom van mij... Of course, it's more expensive than what I have now.....

- Dank u! I will check out the Prisma. I have the Hippocrene Concise and it just isn't as helpful as I'd like. There are hardly any resources in Utah for Nederlands! It is frustrating. Thanks for your help.:)

Hoi - Hallo Kel,

Hoe is het? Ik heb een vraag? What are the materials that you have been using for your learning? I have the PRISMA taal voor anderstallingen book. It has two cds.

I also have another book for travellers in the Netherlands and some stuff from the internet. Noe I have difficulty on which to use and where to start and how to connect the lessons....

veel plezier met nederlands leren...

groetjes uit de Filippijnen,
Ian

Hallo - Hallo iandominicp77,
Hoe gaat het? Met mij gaat het goed, bedankt. I have been using the Teach Yourself Dutch book and cd program and a few sites on the internet. I have not been very faithful to studying lately though. It's hard because I am doing this on my own and I am not very disciplined.:( I agree with you.... veel plezier met nederlands leren...:)

Succes,

- You poor chaps. I was lucky enough to go to school here and learn Dutch. In school there are a wealth of materials either unavailable or unknown outside school. I used 'Code Nederlands' and later 'Help 3'. Both needed a little teacher encouragement because they are entirely in Dutch, but could be done alone (you can buy these books). Before that I made fairly good progress with the Hugo three months courses...consistency is the key though in the beginning. Once the foundation is there..well...

- Oh yes, I also use a prisma and even the basisschool Van Dale which has more words than my vocab.

- 'de aanmoedigende woorden' ;)

Hmm, if anyone spots a book he/she'd like to have, available here in The Netherlands, PM me; I'm prepared to order it and send it to you if you pay me using Paypal. No big deal.

Books for Study - It might be useful for someone to provide a short list of the study books available in the Netherlands, with a difficulty rating. I can mention the books I have used, but everyone is different and I can't claim to be able to know what is best.
As a starter I have two books called 'Nederlands in Hoofdlijnen'. The very thin grammar book is a short, simple and no-nonsense introduction (in Dutch). The second book has graded excercises according to the grammar book.

Contact - One can also contact the ROC in Utrecht. They can help you on info on what books to use or even if you would like to enlist into the ROC to learn Dutch.

Hoi - Hey allemaal,

Is there also a place in Rotterdam like ROC in Utrecht where I could find help with my nederlands. If everything will push through as planned, I will be back in Holland by Nov.5, 2005

Bedankt voor jouw informatie!!!!

- As far as i know they are everywhere. Although i can't say that for sure. If you're really lucky and can wait, the gemeente will put you on a list for free lessons!!!

- There's also the New Routledge Dutch Dictionary, which is what I use. It's good in a couple of ways. It gives the gender for one, but also gives pluralization for nouns- ie. en, eren, s. It also give examples of how to use the word in a sentence and the better half of the examples given are "colloquial" expressions which is valuable since certain expressions of that nature have to be learned as a whole and as they come. "Bent u soms?" being the classic example. Recommended
