Sentence Game - Hallo. :D
I would like us to start a new sentence game about our favourite things. Write a few sentences, in Dutch, about your favourite things, and why you love them. It should help build your vocabulary.

I'll start ;)

Ik heb een hond. Zij is Blauw geroepen. Zij is mijn favoriet ding in mijn leven. Ik houd van haar wegens haar persoonlijkheid.

You did a great job with your sentences and starting this game!

However,there are some very little corrections needed;)

This is not a good sentence.
I assume that her name is "Blauw"?
Then it isn't more difficult then:
[b]Haar naam is Blauw[/b]
or [b] Ik heb haar Blauw genoemd[/b] (I named her Blue)
or [b] Zij is Blauw genoemd[/b] (She is named Blue)

[i]Zij is mijn favoriet ding in mijn leven[/i]

[b]Zij is mijn meest favoriete bezigheid[/b]
Instead of the word 'ding' there should be an action.
I've chosen for 'bezigheid'
(The things that keep you busy taking care of (playing with)the dog etc.)

[i]Ik houd van haar wegens haar persoonlijkheid.[/i]

[b]This last sentence is super! ->Heel erg goed![/b]:)

ok,this are my favourite things:

Ik houd gitaarspelen omdat het erg leuk is om zelf
muziek te kunnen maken.

Ik houd ook van het leren van buitenlandse talen omdat dit de beste manier is om kennis te maken buitenlandse culturen.

And about the titel of this game in Dutch:

Word=Woord
Words=Woorden

Dit is mijn nieuwe favorite bezigheid:

Ik houd ervan om in het bos of op het strand te wandelen,omdat het gezond is.

Bijna goed Random! Almost correct...omdat ik mijn favourite kinderboeken opnieuw lezen kan OR omdat ik mijn favourite kinderboeken opnieuw kan lezen.

- Woohoo! Not bad for my first attempt... I don't know enough words yet to make up a sentence about my favourite pub, though I'm sure my friends will correct that when I visit over easter. :)
I'm having a lot of trouble with high-school german popping into my head when I'm trying to think of the right words for things in Dutch at the moment.
Oooh! I know what I can say.

Ik houd van De Hems, omdat ik vlammetjes met mijn lunch kan hebben.

How's that?

Remember that in embedded clauses (such as: omdat [ik ook een goede nederlandse vriendin heb]) you get the verb at the end. You did remember that at the last sentence, where you put 'moet' last, but there it wasn't an embedded clause, it was just the main sentence, so there it should just be after the subject... so you just mixed the two up, not such a big deal, if you had done it the other way around it would've looked alot better already :)

Juffrouw means madam, juf means teacher, but I'd rather use lerares, juf is more kindergarten or elementary school :)

The reason you use 'nodig hebben' ("ik heb ... nodig", or "dat [ik ... nodig heb]" when embedded) and not 'moeten', is because 'moeten' is the Dutch counterpart of 'must'. If you [i]can[/i] use 'must' in your English sentence, you're likely to get 'moeten' there in dutch. In "I need help" you can't say "I must help" (as in: getting it), so therefore you should translate "need" as "nodig hebben".

Do you get it? So if it were:
"I need to go"
You could also say:
"I must go"
And therefore it is:
"Ik moet gaan"
And not:
"Ik heb het nodig te gaan"

Just if you can't use 'must', go for 'nodig hebben'. Don't know if this rule is watertight, but I think it works pretty well in all the cases I can think of now.
