Egyptian arabic - widespread?: I've gotten some books and CD's (Pimsleur and Linguaphone PDQ), from a friend, in egyptian arabic. I wonder, can other arabic speakers understand this accent? Many people in Sweden are arabs but mostly from the Levantine and Iraq i would guess. Would they understand phrases like "Ana bafham haarabi schweya" or "La ustes" (sorry for my bad transliteration).

It would be fun to say some sentences in their language and get some applauses... Btw are there anyone used to Pimsleur Egyptian who can write the sentences down (I learn better while both reading and listening? Or do someone want me to do that work?

Could moroccoans even understand the egyptian accent? I will maybe go there in the future so would be fun to know a couple of phrases. Or should I instead learn some basic modern standardarabic? But know when i have these courses it seems enough, so it would be bad to buy something else.

i think you mean "ana bafham arabi shweyah" أنا بفهم عربي شوية ("i understand a little arabic" for those still learning!) :) and arabs from every arab country can understand eachothers dialect to some degree. but maSri (egyptian) is understood widely throughout the arab world bc it's often spoken in the media

also moroccans speak maghribi (moroccan) which is like a mix of arabic, french, and berber. their dialect might not make much sense to anybody from outside of Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania, and Chad.

If you're going to Morroco I recommend to use either MSA or French which is greatly understood their . Morrocan is more like day-to-day language not a real one .

Is morocan more like slang?
I think,Egyptian is understood by most people in the Arab world because Egypt is like the Hollywood of the arab world. Most of the stuff most people watch on their tv is egyptian.

it's slang...but at the same time it's treated like a language all on it's own because other arabs (with the exception of probably the Lebanese) don't understand it. each country has it's own special dialect. you can find out more here

Morrocan is the farthest dialect from Arabic . I can barely understand them unless they reduce the speed and the accent of their speaking .

Yes, Egyptian Arabic is very well understood everywhere, and it's the easiest dialect/language (Yes the Egyptian Arabic is considered a separate language since it has a different grammatical structure than all the others)

Morrocan is VERY hard to understand since it's very weirdly accented, they speak too fast, and they mix it with french & berber
