Helena Paparizou - HELENA PAPARIZOU - MAMBO (A LITTLE IN ENGLISH)

Love has got me caught up,
Drives me to a door,
Every little piece inside is knocking at your door.
Tell me, tell me, tell me
Can\'t you see the signs?
Written by a maniac, his love has made me blind.
Can\'t deny - the poison gets me high,
Just a little taste
Shook my life, it hit me like a drum

chorus:
Hey, hey, hey
I feel the mambo, aiya
A mambo, aiya
You make my heart move
Hey, hey, hey
Just like a mambo, aiya
I let it out
A mambo, a-heya

- Oh, please, nobody remembers the song with which she went to the contest, and nobody plays it. I do not deny that it was an upbeat song but lets just not talk about talent or voice.
In Greece we are [unfortunately or fortunately] divided between two music groups:
1. The quality music and
2. The quantity music

Quality is really quality, with good music, lyrics, the singer has a voice and does not sream/shout and of course there is no cacophony in the song. Usually the singers are of low profile, do not advertise themselves in every way possible and do not rely on getting their clothes off [applies to both men and women] to get noticed. Not a lot of these songs but still, the ones that exist do justice. And are remembered for many years later. That is not to say that if a singer or a composer has sung some quality songs in the past will continue to do so; and this is why many crappy songs are considered wonderful simply because they are performed by a previously talented person.

On the other hand we have the new pop music. The bad thing here is not the music itself; I\'ve heard many good and promising songs. However, they are lost due to the talentless singer, to the excessive promotion they are subjected into, or the fact that the singer has a new album and has to promote the new songs. A lot of them are just 20 notes stuck next to each other. Not to mention that most of them are identical copies of each other. And of course, they are forgotten easily and within weks, most of the times.

Helena Paparizou is indeed a very pretty woman, with a great body and I guess talented in her dance moves. We were happy that we won the Eurovision contest, but in my opinion, we have sent way better songs in certain years [and way crappier songs I must add].

- Well, my opinion is not that.

I can\'t see Helena as a pretty and hot girl because I don\'t like girls :p I see her as a great singer. You know that it\'s very difficult to win Eurovision: Many songs, countries and rivals... But if she won it\'s because she is great and you can\'t say no to this :p ... Maybe you\'re jealous Nena ;)

In Spain we still play it. Every Friday we go with songs in English to the English class and we sing them. Last Friday we sang \"My number one\"... And now it\'s very popular in all the High School. So this is not true, dear Nena :)

Yeah, for oh so many years I was trying to go to the Eurovision contest with a song exactly like it, and then she comes and steals my first place... :p

[quote]In Spain we still play it.[/quote]
In Greece it is only remembered when it is Eurovision time.

I have nothing against the Eurovision; I watch it EVERY year. But you cannot deny that the songs have degenerated a bit... See who won last year. It is a matter of promotion, of good neighbours, of a not too awful a song [though this is not always the case]. It started as a contest where the individualities of the countries would participate. Now they all sing in English, with the more or less same pop sound. It is all too...similar. And I was never a fun of copying just to get to number one.

Maybe if I were 15 years old I would like the song as well, maybe I would play it in my highschool parties and cosider the woman as having the most amazing voice ever. But in my 30 years now, I do not share this opinion.
And it makes me mad the fact that new singers come up, all clones of each other, sing songs all identical to ech other, dress in the same way... Despina Vandi was trying to imitate Anna Vissi when she started. Elli Kokkinou is a clone of Despina Vandi. Marianda \"whatever-her-name-is\" looks like Kokkinou. Chryspa is a clone of Marianda. And so on. And guess what! They share the same song composer as well! So if someone writes songs for 10 singers, no doubt he will start repeating himself at some point.
And they all start from the top. They all start from the number one position in the charts. Well, from the top, the only way is downwards. And that is where they all go in the end.

Helena Paparizou is not a bad singer. She is not a bad dancer. She is a very impressive presence. And, I\'ll grand you that, she is much better than certain popular singers in Greece. But for me, the greatest test a singer has to pass, is to sing live and a-capella, with no instruments accompanying him/her. Well, she does not pass the test. Close, but not quite.
:)
