song help - I learned this song in chorus years and years ago, but it\'s still one of my favorites. Supposedly people sing it near around new year, so I was doing that, and then I realized that I have no idea what I\'m saying, and haven\'t known all these years. I don\'t know Greek at all, so if anyone could help translate it and/or put it into Greek script, I\'d be very grateful.

Archiminia ki archichronia
Psili mou dendrolivania
Ki archi ki archi kalos mas chronos
Ekklisia, ekklisia me t\' Agio Thronos

- Hello Polo and welcome to the Greek forum of PB.
These four verses you wrote are not actually from a song but from Greek Carols (named \"Kalanda\" in Greek, from Latin word \"calenda\" that means the first day of a month) for the eve of New Year\'s Day. I will try to translate it now, although it is hard...

(Greek text)

Αρχιμηνιά κι Αρχιχρονιά
ψηλή μου δεντρολιβανιά
κι αρχή καλός μας χρόνος
εκκλησιά με τ\' άγιο θρόνος.

(translation)

First day of the month and first day of the year
my tall rosemary tree
and the start of our good year
a church, a church with the Holy Throne.

There are also 2 more strophes (stanzas) to this

Αρχή που βγήκε ο Χριστός
άγιος και Πνευματικός,
στη γη να περπατήσει
και να μας καλοκαρδίσει.

Αγιος Βασίλης έρχεται,
και δεν μας καταδέχεται,
από την Καισαρεία,
συ\' σαι αρχόντισσα κυρία.

There are also Christmas Carols and Carols for the day of Theofania (or Fota) (Saint Epiphany day).

The story of Greek Carols is routed back to ancient years (of course there were not connected with christian feasts like nowdays).

thank you! - Thank you very much! For both the words and the history. I appreciate all the work you put into that, and yeah, I expect it must have been difficult. It\'s meaning is a beautiful as I imagined it would be.
