| four-letter roots - trgm - Warm greetings to everyone- I have a question, if I may... What, if any, are rules for conjugating four letter roots: do the verbs behave simply as x-xx-x, in having a two-consonant group in the middle instead of the middle consonant? For example, what is the present tense of tirgem תִרגֵם (translate)? And in addition, is there a difference between whatever the form is and the verb ltargem (לְתרגֵם , mtargem)? I apologize to bother - perhaps one day I might be on the side of giving advice (sometimes) myself- but that day is far. So, so many thanks Simon | |

| - Hi Simon! Welcome to PB! Four letter roots behave exactly in the way you said. One of the middle letters gets \"shva\" in order not to destroy the structure of \"binyan\". The present of תרגם is the following: אני\\אתה\\הוא מתרגם metargem אני\\את\\היא מתרגמת metargemet אנחנו\\אתם\\הם מתרגמים metargemim אנחנו\\אתן\\הן מתרגמות metargemot Unfortunately, I didn\'t understand your last question ;) What exactly do you mean?
