Hatikva - äú÷åä - ùìåí!

As yet I know about as much Hebrew grammar as does the modern Eskimo, so to say my comprehension is sketchy might be understating it a slight... but this is a beautiful song and I\'m tenacious. I spent a long time limping through the dictionary in search of word-for-word definitions, and present the (albeit incomplete) results below, along with the lyrics, romanization, and English translation.

Also, there\'s a pleasant recording which I located for download here (see the second link labeled \"Melody (Vocal)\"): http://www.medianetjapan.com/10/travel/vladimir/russian_house/hatikva.html

Maybe this stuff is too easy for the learners here, but if anyone has the time and ability, I\'d love to see a detailed explanation of how these lines work grammatically.

Translation
As long as deep in the heart,
The soul of a Jew yearns,
And forward to the East
To Zion, an eye looks
Our hope will not be lost,
The hope of two thousand years,
To be a free nation in our land,
The land of Zion and Jerusalem.

- Mine is just a comment...

I find \"Hatikva\" so touching and meaningful. Not every nation gets to have a national anthem like this :)

- Indeed! For that matter, it\'s the only anthem I\'ve heard that is played in the minor key.
