Can you tell me how to get - Howdy!
I've just started learning Hindi. This is my first ligitimate attempt to learn another language so I'd like to do it right. So Far I've been studying with, "Teach Yourself: Hindi Conversation". The few times I've been bold enough to speak to a Hindi speaker in Hindi I've been understood, so I guess it's a pretty good program. But I'd like to supplement it with something visual as well as aural. Is there such a thing as Hindi Sesame Street? If so; how can I get a DVD of it? And if not; can anyone suggest a couple of Hindi launge movies with really accurate English subtitles? I've got Devdas. But it's so heavy, it's hard to watch over and over again. A girl can only do so much crying in one day!
Thanks in advance for your help!

- Namaste Monkeypipette!
I'd like to welcome you to the world of learning languages and wish you all the best of luck. Personally I've found that the one really crucial thing to a language is passion.
I personally use the "Teach Yourself: Hindi" - it's a very good guide to grammar and has helped me a lot. I'm not sure how "Hindi Conversation" has approached it - does it just give you phrases?

I'm very certain that there's a Hindi equivalent to "Sesame Street" - how to find it, though, is a good question. Raiding the internet or travelling to Bharat (India) itself are the only suggestions i can give!
Otherwise, keep an eye out for Hindi films. You're in LA, and I've heard there's plenty there. For some lighter viewing, I'd recommend you find "Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham" (Sometimes Happy Sometimes Sad) Or "Hum Tum" (Me You). My personal all-time favourite is Veer-Zaara - although seeing how it's set in Pakistan and Punjab, i'm not sure if there's some Urdu and Punjabi in there (but Urdu is virtually identical to Hindi anyways). Other good films in no particular order: Dil Se (From the Heart), Paheli (Puzzle? - look for it in artsy cinemas in your town - it's been put up there to win some votes for the oscars!), Lagaan (Land Tax)and Swades (Motherland)
