| hindi to english - Hi . This is Robert from Mexico. How are you? I’d greatly appréciate your help with this translation. I think it’s mostly correct, but I don’t understand a few things… Thanks The Ant and the Grasshopper एक चींटी थी | वह जा रही थी | राह में एक टिड्डा मिला | टिड्डा कहने लगा --- चींटी बहन ! जरा रुक जाओ | चींटी रुक गई | पूछ्ने लगी --- क्या बात है ? There was an ant. He was going along. On his way he met a grasshopper. The grasshopper said, “Cousin ant, stop for a minute!” The ant stopped and asked, “What’s up?” टिड्डे ने कहा --- मीठी - मीठी हवा चल रही है | आओ बाग में खेलें | The grasshopper said, “The wind is blowing gently – come play in the garden.” चींटी ने कहा --- मैं कैसे खेलूँ ? मुझे दाने इकट्ठे करने हैं | जब बरसात आएगी तो छोटी चींटियाँ क्या खाएँगी ? मुझे घर भी ठीक करना है | बरसात के पानी से घर टूट सकता है | The ant said, “Play?! I’m gathering grain. When it rains the little ants come to eat what? I’m preparing my house too. I’m filling the house with rain water.” टिड्डे ने कहा --- हम तो खेलते हैं जी | The grasshopper said, “Well, we are playing, sir!” एक दिन बादल आ गये | बरसात होने लगी | टिड्डा भीगता हुआ आया | चींटी का दरवाज़ा खटखटा कर कहने लगा --- चींटी बहन ! मुझे भी अपने घर में थोड़ी सी जगह दे दो | मैं बुरी तरह भीग गया हूँ | जब तक बरसात होगी तब तक यहाँ रहूँगा | फ़िर चला जाऊँगा | One day a cloud came in and it rained. The grasshopper became soaking wet. He knocked on the ant’s door and cried, “Cousin ant, give me shelter in your home for a while – I’m wet and miserable! I’ll stay here while it rains! (phir chalaa …? ? ?) चींटी बोली --- भाई टिड्डे ! तुमने सारा साल काम नहीं किया | तुमने अपना घर नही बनाया | संकट के लिए कुछ अनाज भी जमा करके नही रखा | जाओ मैं तुम्हारी सहायता नही कर सकती | जो अलसी हैं उनकी यही दशा होती है | The ant said, “Brother grasshopper, during all these years you did nothing. You didn’t build your house and neither did you amass cereal for a crisis. Go – I can’t help you! (jo alsee hain unko yahi dashaa hai ? ?)” टिड्डा गिड़गिड़ाया | कहने लगा --- चींटी बहन ! इस बार क्षमा कर दो | आगे से मेहनत किया करूँगा | The grasshopper whined, “Cousin ant, forgive me – from now on I’ll always work hard!” चींटी ने टिडडे को चावल के कुछ दाने दिये | कहने लगी --- लो खाओ | लेकिन मेरे घर में तुम्हारे लिए जगह नहीं है | The ant gave the grasshopper some grains of rice, saying, “Take this to eat, but there’s no place in my home for you.” टिड्डा रोता सा मुँह लेकर चला गया |And he turned his back on the grasshopper. | |

| - (phir chalaa …? ? ?) फ़िर चला जाऊँगा Then I will leave. (jo alsee hain unko yahi dashaa hai ? ?) जो आलसी हैं उनकी यही दशा होती है | Those who are lazy get into this situation. (It\'s आलसी, not अलसी - meaning \"lazy\") | |

| - Hi mangomano, Ther is something that nikhilkizvas did not point out. à¤à¤• चींटी थी | वह जा रही थी is translated by you as There was an ant. He was going along. {Here, थी denotes feminine gender of the ant} So, it should be There was an ant. She was going along. Further, चींटी बहन translates to sister ant (but, in India immediate cousins are considered as brothers and sisters. So, you are not entirely wrong). One strange fact, you might have heard or will hear many Indians talking about their \'cousin brother\'/\'cousin sister\'. This is due to the same reason I have given before. | |
