Grammatic: "egar g hitti konuna bau g henni gan daginn."

This sentence is grammatically wrong but it is a tradition saying it like this. There is another way of saying this grammatically right. And I guess both ways are used even.
I didnt know this until today and probably most Icelanders don't know this either.
So, what is grammatically wrong with the sentence?

Ps.
It would please me very much if somone would correct my English.

your english is fine, but turning on my "nitpicking mode"...

"This sentence is grammatically wrong but is traditionally formed this way. There's another way of saying it that's grammatical, and both ways are used equally [i assume that's what you meant]. I didn't...either. So...sentence?"

i don't suppose you know of any good icelandic (modern or old) textbooks, preferably highschool or college-level, but teach-yourself as well? the only one i've managed to find is "teach yourself icelandic", which i've been disappointed with, and couldn't continue using it shortly after memorizing most of the noun endings.

:) to further the nitpicking mode:

"This sentence is grammatically wrong,[always use a comma before 'but'] but it is traditionally formed this way. There's another way of saying it that's grammatically correct, and both ways are used equally. I didn't know this until today, and ....either. So...sentence?

P.S.
It would be very helpful if someone would correct my English.
or
I would appreciate it if someone would correct my English.

Thought I'd help point out some punctuation errors and missing words. :)

Thank you for your corrections.

Here is the grammatically correct sentence.

"egar g hitti konuna bau g henni ga daginn."
or
"egar g hitti konuna bau g henni gan dag."

When I met the woman i said good morning to her.
gur = good
morning = morgunn
day = dagur
