I don't speak Icelandic too well, but I'll try.. Don't be sure about anything I say :D

The May star

Oh, how light is your shoe-sound(?)
Oh, how long I ... you
There is snow(?) on the windows
.. wind that whines.
but I know a star
a star that shines
and now .. you are coming,
you are coming to me

There are difficult times
there is ...
I have nothing to offer
not a .. that I give
except my hope and my life
whether I am awake or asleep
this one that you gave me
that is all that I have.

But tonight ends the winter
of every .. man
and tomorrow shines a May-sun
That is his May-sun
that is our May-sun
of our unity bond
for you I bear the flag
of this land of future

skhlj/shoe-sound. - maybe it means footsteps, I guess Freja?
Did you mean "
    whine
(hvin) for you", instead of 'wine'? I don't know any Icelandic, though.

'Footstep' would be 'skref, fet, ftspor'.. or something ;) I don't know
yeah, I mean 'whine', haha..
P dansk ville du her sige "hyle" eller "hvine"

thank you everybody for posting :)

i think "vinnandi" means working, so it would be "of every working man"

we're getting closer :P

Yes, you do. He received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1955, "for his vivid epic power which has renewed the great narrative art of Iceland".

The May Star: I've translated "Mastjarnan" as I understand it. It's not exact word to word translation.
Here it is.

The May Star

Oh how quiet your steps are
oh how long I awaited,
a springsnow on a window,
a chilly wind is whizzing,
but I know one star,
one shining star,
and at last you are here,
you are here with me.

There are difficult times,
there is a labor dispute,
I have nothing to offer,
not a scrap I can give,
just my hope and my life
whether awake or asleep,
this hope you gave me
it is all that I have.

Every workers winter
comes off tonight,
and tomorrow shines a May Sun,
the May Sun is his,
the May Sun is ours,
it is our solidarity string,
in front of you I carry the flag
of this scenario land.

That's a beautiful song. Thanks for the link! ^^

On a side note, I never heard of a star called the May star, and neither can I find anything about it on Google, so I think that Halldr was probably not referring to a specific, real star here.

And that star is called "sl" in icelandic and that is, our one and only Sun. He is also referring to, May 1st, international workers day.
