| Struggling learner - Hey everyone. I've been trying for years off and on to learn Irish Gaelic. It's never worked! My biggest problem is the confusing pronunciation. I have yet to find a simple explanation of the pronunciation of this language. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you! | |

| - Thank you :) I hope someone does too. It seems that the best lessons I get come from native speakers and I really there're some native Gaelic speakers here and willing to help. | |

| - Irish pronunciation can be quite difficult for a beginner. It's mostly because of something called lenition (aka aspiration) and eclipses (aka nasalization). It's a task to explain, but if you want to find alex or myself online sometime, we can help explain it better. RMKiwi can help too, he knows a lot about irish. unfortunately there aren't any native speakers on this forum, but a few of us who know quite a bit about it. here is a pronunciation guide that will help explain: http://www.hocanimation.com/IrishPronGuide.pdf hope that helps. also, take alex up on his offer for irish audio lessons. it would be 10x better to hear it pronounced than just reading about it :) slán agus beannacht leat, christine | |

| - Hi I've learnt Irish from native Gaeltacht speakers. Feel free to ask me any question about pronounciation, grammar etc, I'll be glad to help you. Irish pronounciation and spelling are complicated and they can't be explained in a simple way. But it is quite regular (but lots of things to learn). Once you have learnt the rules and their exceptions, you are able to pronounce 99% of new words without mistakes. See you | |
