| Who's your favorite Irish band? - I'm not too familiar with a lot of Irish music, so I'm asking everyone: "Who's you're favorite Irish band?" I would love to get some good music to listen to, so that I can practice my pronunciation when speaking Irish. It'll also be good to hear and learn more about the culture. | Clannad! - Hiya, I love Clannad too! My Dad has the soundtrack to the Robin Hood movie on vinyl which I used to love as a kid. I listen to Past Present a lot these days, especially Sirius and the theme from Harry's game. The Corrs are pretty cool too. Their earlier stuff is better. Check out the 'Forgiven not forgotten' album, it has some great gaelic instrumental stuff on it. Enjoy! :) | |

| - U2 are irish, as far as I know... maybe I´m wrong... but I always heared them as being Irish. I love their songs too. Clannad was awesome and Bono used to sing there with Enya. I love the song called "macalla". It´s wonderful. | |

| irish faves... - Hi guys!my favourite irish band is of course U2 and yes,they´re from Dublin,The Corrs are corny but they´re nice for the ears,they´re from Dundalk.Bewitched,from Dublin,for the teenagers,one of the girl singers in that band is related to one of the Boyzone fellas...Westlife,Ronan Keating,his solo career is not too bad at all.As to celtic music...there are so many musicians!Liam O´Flynn is my all time favourite,Moya Brennan,Mary Black (whom I was once introduced to by a pal of mine who knew her!!unfortunatedly I had never heard of her!)Sínead O´Oconnor,Sínead Lohan,Gliordar (irish for "happiness"),The Chieftains,the Dubliners...that should be enough to get you started in any kind of irish celtic/pop/disco/ music... | |

| Here's what I've found... - Ok, for Irish bands... I decided to look around on the web and I found a few good stuff that I liked. Of course my style of music might differ from yours, but these are what I found and liked. Band I like: Solas Young Dubliners Altan Lunasa Danu The Frames Damien Rice Ones I heard were good: Chieftains Kila Dervish I'm still looking for more good bands... Enya is a good one too, I have to admit. | |

| - The Chieftains, these people are like the classical Irish music the way they have put the music togeather {God rest Derek Bell}They were the first band from the west to play in China.I think that Christy Moore is not to bad,though I know he is quite big here in Ireland. But I think that Planxty are great and Christy played with them, they help to bring Irish music to a new level I've got to go I'll post some other bands later. | - You have excellent taste in Irish music Christine! You could also try the band that most Irish musicians and even Riverdance have been influenced by...Planxty and the members of this band. They are the Beatles of Traditional Irish music and they reformed last year to sell out performances in Dublin, London and Belfast. The members of the band are... Donal Lunney - You will see his name associated this any of Irelands best bands and has usually had a hand in discovering them or playing with them. Andy Irvine - The Woody Guthrie of Irish music. When these two play together it is electrifying. They both play the Irish Bouzouki. Liam O'Flynn - One of the worlds best Uillieann pipers. Christy Moore - A solo performer of great renoun and a fantastic artist. Christy has a brother - Luka Bloom - who blows me away with his positive lyrics and fantastic talent. Continuing in the traditional vain then you could also try... Grada - Young Dublin/ NZ band making it big Davy Splillane - Uillieann Piper Calico - Band Lúnasa - brilliant Laoise Kelly - one of the best harpists i have ever heard in a band called The Bumble Bees Paul Brady - singer soloist has a fantastic CD with Andy Irvine ( hard to get but worth it) "First Light" There is so much out there and it depends on how traditional you want to go. If you want to go into Sean Nós, etc. There is a woman from the Aran Islands who has the voice of an angel. Lasairfhíona Ní Chonaola. Her CD An Raicín Álainn is one of the most beautiful I have heard in a long time. I picked it up from An Cultúrlann in the Falls Road in Belfast. Fantastic place if you can get there but I don't know if you can get it over the net. I'm sure you could. Ebay is a good place to pick CD's up from. I have a wealth of trad music here but it is never enough. Got to have more! Got to learn more!! I play the clárseach, bodhran harp and sing Irish music. I am just embarking on the challenge of learning Gaelic songs. "'S Stór a Stór a Ghra" has been my first. Almost forgot check out Niamh Parsons too. Slán | |

If you are looking to practice your Irish then try to get a hold of Pádraigín Ní Uallacháin's "A Stór is a Stóirín" 36 songs for all ages. It has the lyrics in a great booklet. She has come out with a book called "The Hidden Ulster" too which is excellent and talks about the musical traditions of Ulster including histories of songs, the collectors of songs and their life stories, lyrics, different variations on songs, etc. well worth a look. She has other works too. A book called "Cas Amhrán 1" is excellent too for language. 156 pages of songs you would have heard from Altan and the likes plus more. My edition in from 1979 and I don't know if it has been re printed but if you can get a hold of it it worth it. Best bet is to contact An Cultúrlann. They have heaps of brilliant CD's, computer software and books in their bookshop. Have you heard of Dedanann, Ossian, Bothy Band, Dervish, Déanta (Deirdre the flute player is brilliant), Skara Brea, Tadhg Mac Dhonnagáin (modern Irish language songs of his own composition), Crann, Siné or Mozaik? Mozaik are mostly instrumental with Andy singing in English but the rest sing in Irish. Ádh Mór, Josey | |

| - For rock music: Thin Lizzy, Rory Gallagher and cruachan would be my favourite and U2 aswell although Im not a huge fan of some of their stuff. For traditional irish The Dubliners are by far my favourite but I also like the Clancy brothers and Christy Moore | |

| Favorite Irish band. - My goodness there are so many of them. I suppose it really depends on what type of music you're talking about. If it is TRAD. again so many but Sharon Shannon, Andy Irvine are way up there. I like to hear how they are very strong into trad. but also getting a misture from outside sources. | |

| I love Irish Music - A new band I just love is Westlife they are awsome. If you want to watch some of there music videos go on youtube.com. Ok I also like U2 and they are definetly Irish. I like blue but I don't know if everyone or any one is Irish in that group. the corrs are good also. | |
