Student Introductions - I thought it would be neat to practice what we just finished studying in my Japanese class. How to introduce yourself and discuss your school career.

If you need to refresh you memory on some terms, like daigaku ( college ) or koukou ( high school ),Tomoka-san has posted an education page here:

What you need to do is say your name, your age, your school, your year in school, and your major ( if that applies to you ). And don't forget to begin with "hajimemashite" and end with "Douzo yoroshiku".

I'll go first.

はじめまして。
私はデビスジェシカです。
じゅうはっさいです。
テネシだいがくのいちねんせいです。
せんこうはびじゅつとアジアけんきゅうです。
どうぞよろしく。

Hajimemashite.
Watashi wa Debisu Jeshika desu.
Juuhassai desu.
Teneshi daigaku no ichinensei desu.
Senkou wa bijutsu to ajiakenkyuu desu.
Douzo yoroshiku.

Nice to meet you.
I am Jessica Davis.
I am 18 years old. ( -sai represents years )
I am a first-year University of Tennessee student. ( -nensei is for year; Make sure to use the Japanese pronunciation of your school's name )

My majors are art and Asian Studies. ( Senmon is also a word for major, but is usually used more for grad students )
It was a pleasure meeting you ( Lit. Please treat me kindly )

Wow. I'm not sure what you said Psy-san, as I cannot read many kanji and WorldLingo apparently can't either, but I did see a word I was going to mention: hatachi.

Remember guys, while it is grammatically correct to use "nijuussai" ( not sure on romaji for that ), it sounds kind of unnatural. Instead, you can just say "hatachi desu".

Because of this, the reading of 「二十歳」is actually 'hatachi.' Interesting, isn't it?"

Now, whether or not that is actually what the Japanese means, well...

- I can understand you, but it seems you are new to writing kana. Here are a few minor corrections:

はじめまして　み[color=red]んあ[/color]さんー＞はじめまして　み[color=blue]な[/color]さん

ぼく　の　なまえ　Pawel ですー＞ ぼく　の　なまえ　[color=blue]は[/color](pronounced "wa")　Pawel です

じゅうはちですー＞じゅうは[color=blue]っさい[/color]です　（はち + さい = はっさい)

はちじゅうさい　ですー＞Wow! You look young for your age! ;) はちじゅうさい = 80 years old.

こうこうせい　ですー＞correct!

いま　こうこう　へ(or に）　いきます。ー＞correct!

[color=red]さんせい[/color]　です。ー＞[color=blue]さんねんせい[/color]です。

どぞ[color=red]う[/color]　よろしくー＞ど[color=blue]う[/color]ぞ　よろしく

- it was the first time I was writing something in japanese, so I knew that I would make some studip mistakes.

for example that with 80 years or na in to hiragana letters.

almoust all correction was my stupid mistakes ... now I see that I must pracice writing in japanese ...

thanks for corrections, I think this forum would be nothing without you, you have a lot of work on this forum :)

- From my experience both みんなさん and みなさん are technically correct, though I\'ve only heard natives say みなさん in the context of \"hi everyone!\" みんな is also used in the connotation of \"all\" as in, みんなの中で、あの人は一番人気があります。 \"of all, that guy is the most popular.\"

Hey there, Hamid. \"LOL\" in Japanese is (笑), said \"warai.\" :D

こんにちは is the correct spelling.

じゅうきゅう is the correct spelling for 19, and in Japanese the numbers would normally be written in kanji or in arabic numbers: 十\九さい or １９さい-- the basic character for さい is easy enough, too, so you could learn it quickly: 才. 十\九才. (歳 is more common but difficult for beginners)

I\'ll use spaces for clarity-- it gets hard to read if you use mostly kana without spaces. There is nothing wrong with では but it sounds rather stiff here.
日本語　が　だいすきです。でもわたしの日本語　が　まだ　じょうずじゃありません。

でも is fine, but it starts a new sentence. すこしわかります is a positive sentence. If you want to say \"only\" you can say it this way:

だいがくのがくせい makes perfect sense, but Japanese people would say だいがくせい. In English you say に \"in,\" but in Japanese you say の \"of\": スロベニアのLjubljanaのだいがくせいです。

Same thing here with でも. It starts a sentence but doesn\'t connect one:
