Desire - Hi. I\'m a newbie. Maybe this is old stuff for you. In any case, since there isn\'t much information regarding grammar/conjugations, I figured it\'d be handy to post something about it here.

Korean Verb Stems
I\'ve heard there are exceptions, but for the most part these guys are easy. All you need to do is rip off the ´Ù (da) at the end of the verb you looked up in the dictionary. That\'s the stem.

Saying \"I want.\"
Add \"°í ½Í¾î¿ä\" (go ship\'eoyo) to the stem. Easy as pie:

¸¶½Ã´Ù = to drink
¸¶½Ã = to drink (stem)
¸¶½Ã°í ½Í¾î¿ä = I want to drink
¸ÆÁÖ¸¦ ¸¶½Ã°í ½Í¾î¿ä = I want to drink a beer. :D

¸Ô´Ù = to eat
¸Ô = to eat (stem)
¸Ô°í ½Í¾î¿ä = I want to eat.
Á¡½É ¸Ô°í ½Í¾î¿ä = I want to eat lunch. :D

¿À´Ã ¸Ô¿ì·¯ ÀϺ»½Ä´ç¿¡ °¡°í ½Í¾î¿ä. = I want to go and eat at the Japanese restaurant today.

Hope that was an interesting tidbit. Mistakes very possible. Please correct if necessary.

- Thanks for the explanation! Pretty easy. How about saying \"I don\'t want to...\"?

Isn\'t it something like: 고 싶지않아요.

먹고 싶지않아요. = I don\'t want to eat.

- I will add some more explanation along with some corrections!

Psy\'s explanation is very good but there\'s an error.
it\'s ¸ÔÀ¸·¯, not ¸Ô¿ì·¯.

and to answer to the question of mteric,
you know it well already. it\'s -°í ½ÍÁö ¾Ê¾Æ¿ä, but there was a mistake in spacing. but the majority of native speakers don\'t know the spacing rule well.. even i don\'t care when i write informally. haha. also you can say -±â ½È¾î¿ä. although it has the same root as the verb \'to hate\' or \'to not like\' in Korean which is \"½È¾îÇÏ-\", \"½È-\" just means \"to not want to\". For example,

¿À´Ã ¹ä(À»/Àº) ¸Ô±â ½È¾î¿ä. (I don\'t want to eat today)
Çб³(¿¡) °¡±â ½È¾î¿ä. (I don\'t wanna go to school)

but
¸ÆÁÖ(¸¦/´Â) ½È¾îÇØ¿ä. (I don\'t like beer.)

Note that in informal speech, the markers (or particles) -Àº/´Â, -À»/¸¦, etc can be omitted.
