안녕하세요! Message from the new Korean moderator. - Hello, I\'m Bryan, the new moderator of the Korean forum on Phrasebase.com. I\'m a native Korean speaker and I live in Toronto, Canada. I am newly in charge of translating the rest of the online phrase book and fixing errors, so you will see the completed Korean phrase entries soon. Don\'t hesitate to ask me questions. Please post your questions here in this forum rather than sending it to me directly by message, so that others can get help from it as well. I\'d be always willing to help you. Also I am going to start posting some grammar lessons as well as cultural readings and links to help you learn Korean and the Korean culture. Hope this forum becomes more active. Good luck with your learning. :D

- Since it seems no one else is going to say anything, despite not having learned much Korean since I last visited here (been wanting to finish a couple of my other language courses first...), I\'ll say ¾È³çÇϼ¼¿ä!

I\'m looking forward to all of your upcoming publications. :D In Japanese it\'d be tanoshimi ni shite imasu.

Hi Alfred - I do welcome Bryan a korean forum moderator and he would do this better for you, but Bryan seems quite busy,so i may give you some help here.

good morning sir?
good afternoon?
good evening?

We koreans don\'t differentiate the greetings practically upon the time when we greet, so we say any time \" 안녕하세요? or 안녕하십니까?\" -- Annyeonghaseyo?/Annyeonghasimnikka? in polite manner. (recently among the young people, there are tend to say instead, 좋은 아침!?(Joeun achim for good morning)
좋은 저녁!?(Joeun Jeonyeok) i am not sure for Good afternoon how they say.

what is your name?
이름이 무엇입니까?(ireum-i mueosimnikka?), in very high polite form, 성함이 어떻게 되십니까?(seongham-i eotteoke doesimnikka?)

how old are you?
몇 살이에요?(myeo-ssal-ieyo?), in very high polite manner 나이가(연세가) 어떻게 되십니까?(nai-ga or yeonse-ga eotteoke doesimnikka?)

where do you live?
어디(에) 사십니까? eodie sasimnikka?
어디에 사세요? eodie saseyo?

please tell me about yourself?
자신 소개를 좀 해 주시겠습니까? (Jasin sogae-reul jom hae jusigesseumnikka?)

what are you doing?
뭐 하고 계십니까? (mueo hago gyesimnikka?)

** we have the two different way of expression in polite manner in ending of the phrases like one with ...YO(요)we call informal polite ending and another with ...mnida(ㅂ니다) we call formal polite ending.

Hope this helps you more learn korean

the linguistic difficulties of korean language for foreigners are such these manneric expressions how to say in the different situations, and the fact korean language has lot of different particles with nouns a well as lot of various verb conjugations in the grammar, from my point of view. So to master korean, better to invade the grammar far at the end after skilled up the basics(characters, pronounciations and useful phrases) and the daily conversational practice.

some of language specialist say that learning language of Top down system(learning from the conversational to the basics) is more efficient than Bottom up system(learning from the basics to the conversations)

How i am doing in teaching korean on line is thus the parralel method mixed with these two in such teaching the basic first at the same time let people practice couple of phrasesand conversations on every lesson although my method is not yet proved, however the students seem pleased with that way.

welcome any advices
