Good Korean Textbooks - I have to admit, I\'m a little disappointed with the lack of good, thorough Korean learning web sites. There\'s a few places that whet your appetite, but depth and detail are seriously lacking. (I wonder why this is? Maybe there aren\'t many English-speaking people that want to learn Korean...)

Anyway, I\'m considering buying the first level of \"Integrated Korean\" by Sang Lee, et al. Has anyone used this book before? Are there other good Korean textbooks out there?

- I have read some books by Hyo Sang Lee also called \"Integrated Korean\" but I\'m not sure if you are referring to the same book. It gave excellent explanation for korean grammar. If you want to learn vocabulary, I\'d suggest you just buy a dictionary - those published in Korea are the best.

^^

- Was this the book you read, ladyk?

I already have a really good Korean dictionary, so I\'m looking for something that explains Korean grammar...

- Yes! That\'s the one. Beginner 1,2 and Intermediate 1,2 were great. Don\'t know about the other series though. Hope I could buy the whole lot...haha

- Thanks for showing me that book, I\'ll have to check it out.

If you\'re looking for a place with a broader selection of Korean books, you can try hanbooks. As far as I know it\'s the best Korean distributer in the United States.

A friend of mine recommended this book, which I ordered a week ago-

Once I take a closer look at it I\'ll tell you how it is.

Oh, and I\'ve also heard good things about the Ganada series.

- Oh I have the Korean Grammar book that you recommended above, too. It\'s great for grammar study, but doesn\'t explain the differences between similar particles. But it\'s very comprehensive - very good book.

- Thanks for mentioning Hanbooks, Percavius! That grammar book does appear to be very comprehensive (and for a good price too). I might have to check that one out...

- I ended up buying the \"Integrated Korean\" Beginner 1 book and it is great! One of the best things about it is you can download audio files from their website that go along with the text, which makes learning the pronunciation much easier. The lessons are easy to follow and understand. It\'s really a good book. I\'m going to have to get the whole set!

- Korean Grammar For International Learners, which I mentioned before, has become my favorite purchase so far (albiet just one of three). Sure, it\'s easy to find new straight-foreward things to study like nouns and adjectives, but generally harder to find comprehensive material on grammar.

That\'s where this book comes in handy. As a reference for those more nebulous language constructs (prime eg.: particles). It has a not-too-overbearing-and-not-too-succinct-either explaination of each construct and a modest amount of example sentences for each as well. What makes it easy to use as a reference is the section at the back where every particle is indexed alphabetically.

The explainations, sidenotes, translations are all written in intelligent English, and all the subject matter and examples written in 한글. For me, a very welcome change from the usage of romanized-korean (which I consider a hopelessly inconsistent and indirect medium for learning Korean) in other books/resources.

It\'s no tome to read straight through. But actually taken time to absorb and be comfortable with what you\'re learning, there is TONS of material to cover in this book.

There\'s my mini review of Korean Grammar For International Learners. I hope it helps somebody.
