| Weird Latin Phrases - Here are some odd phrases I learned in my Latin class last year: Sunt aliquoe inemptibilia, pro ceteris est CartaDomini >>There are some things money can\'t buy, for everything else there\'s MasterCard Felix Dies Porci Terrae >>Happy Groundhog\'s Day Ego sum tuus pater >>I am your father (from Star Wars) Si tu haec verba legere potes, tibi nimium eruditio est >>If you can read these words, you\'re too educated Via Lactica >>Milky Way Fortibus es in ero. Vadis enim, causan dux? >>This doesn\'t mean anything, but if you say it you\'ll see that it is pronounced like \"Forty buses in a row. What is in \'em, cows and ducks?\" in English. | |

| -
Originally posted by UberGerman Ego sum tuus pater >>I am your father (from Star Wars)
sum pater tui. (ego is implied in \"sum\") ... you could also do it: \"ego pater tui\" or \"ego pater tuus\" since \"esse\" is quite often implie in latin ... \"I am the father of you\" ... although, the translation you gave still works: \"I am father to you.\" \"Caeser si viveret, ad remum dareris.\" ->\"If Caesar were alive, you\'d be chained to an oar.\" \"Clamo, clamatis, omnes clamamus pr glace lactis!\" ->\"I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!\" \"Ecce hora! Uxor mea me necabit!\" ->\"Look at the time! My wife will kill me!\" \"Si hoc legere potes, operis boni inrebus Latinus alacribus et fructuosis potiri potes!\" ->\"If you can read this, you can get a good job in the fast-paced, high-paying world of Latin!\" \"Salve Brute! Crepidas meas per clavos ad solum adfixinte?\" ->\"Hey Brutus, did you nail my sandals to the floor?\" \"Sentio aliquos togatos contra me conspirare\" ->\"I think some people in togas are plotting against me.\" \"Mihi ignosce. Cum homine de cane debeo congredi\" ->\"Excuse me, I have to go see a man about a dog.\" ...okay ... there\'s some to keep you entertained until next time ;) -Cripps | |
