moldavian - In Moldova russian and moldavian are spoken...moldavian is very similar to romanian from what I hear...just a few words are different. Russian is written in cyrillic...at a time Moldova was part of the Soviet Union..so that\'s where the cyrillic comes from.

- You are right, I can say Moldavian is almost like Romanian, only the accent is a bit different and of course there are some specific words. But Moldavian is not usually written in cyrillic, although there are Russian influences there.

- Moldova uses the Cyrillic alphabet because it was once part of the Soviet Union. The USSR forced the Moldavians to use the Cyrillic alphabet.

I\'ve heard that Moldavian is a dialect of Romanian. Is this true? I know it is certainly very similar to Romanian.

- before being taken under the \"urss wing\",moldova was a part of romania,so the basic language is romanian, but the russian communism forced people from moldova not to speak their own language, but russian during their occupation for about 50 years.in this way,the moldavian people \"borowed\" a lot of russian words, but they tried to make them sound as romanian,so they put to these russian words romanian conjugations, preffixes, suffixes.Nowadays, although
there were only 50 years of communism(a tough one),it\'s really hard for moldavian people to get back to their natural language, romanian!!!,which they have been speaking since the nation was formed, because, as i said once, of the communis.if you want more details,if you have question you can contact me,only a moldavian can know better this things

- In Moldova the spoken language is romanian with a small difference in the pronunciation of some words, like some kind of dialect. While Moldova was under the soviet uion they tried to create a Moldavian language by using the cyrillic alphabet to write romanian words. This obviusly didn\'t persist and now they just speak both languages. But Moldavian has nothing to do with russian since it has latin origins.

- The difference between Romanian and Moldavian is like that between Dutch, and Vlaams.
Moldavian was written in the Cyrillic alphabet during Soviet occupation. But since 1991, I believe, when Moldova became an independent state, they reverted back to the latin alphabet. The exact same as that used for Romanian.
