- Oh wow Claudi!! (I did that on purpose, I hope you don\'t mind I call you Claudi?)

Thank you so much for the links. They help a lot for two reasons. Pradeep was interested in sharing Nepali and French, and I\'ve been learning French and have a passion for Nepali.. so it helps to learn both :)

Dherai dhanyabaad! (Merci beaucoup!) :D

- Somehow I canīt get away from the Nepali language. :) Yesterday I found some further links, which gave me some more information. Of course, I share them with you again:

the Devanagari alphabet in general:
http://www.anu.edu.au/asianstudies/hindi/alphabet/

pronounciation of the alphabet (with audio stuff):
- lesson1 - pronounciation of vowels (2 pages)
- lesson2 - pronounciation of consonants (7 pages)
- a very little bit practice (1 page)

(unluckily I can only link the main page here - you have to choose the lessons on this site yourself)

a Nepali dictionary:

verb conjugation:

I thought that others could profit from these links, too. :)

- Whoa Claudi!

Dherai dhanyabād (Thank you so much!)
I saw a few of these but had lost the links when my computer crashed, and I really like the lesson one that you posted (with audio).

I also can\'t get away from Nepali language (and I don\'t want to), it opened my mind and horizons so much wider and I want those changes to continue.

- As my plans to learn Nepali become a bit more serious now, I tried to find out how to type Devanagari. I have no idea how to install something on my pc - but I remembered a wonderful site I learnt about in the Croatian forum (Dherai dhanyabaad, el_tigre ;)).

So I will use this link and type my stuff here:
http://www.gate2home.com/?language=dev&sec=2
Then I will use \"copy and paste\" to bring it to the forum.

I hope, others who (still) have problems, how to install the alphabet or how to type, can profit from this site, too. :)

- Hi Claudi!

Sometimes you won\'t even need to install anything on your computer. If you have Windows, you can go to Start, Settings, Control Panel. Pick Regional and Language Settings. Select the second (Language) tab. Check the box for East Asian languages. A lot of the times it is already installed and you would just have to enable it. Sometimes it might ask you for an installation CD.

Let me know what kind of computer system you have, and whether or not it required a CD for the above steps. It would be different for a Mac.

- Hi Anya,

well, I know where to do the language settings on my computer (Windows XP) and I already did for some languages (Slovene alphabet, Cyrillic alphabet) some months ago. But I know, that I would need an installation CD for Asian languages. I should try to catch \"my pc doc\" to ask him whether he gave me such a CD or whether he can do it for me.

But as long as I am a beginner I will type it by this link I posted above.

Now I have to ask a stupid question: isnīt it more simple to type the Devanagari alphabet when I can also see its letters on the keyboard? For example, when I want to type ड (=nga?) itīs probably much easier when I see this letter on the keyboard. On my keyboard I have ü (=a typical German letter) at this place.
So this is also a reason why I would prefer the keyboard shown in my link. In my eyes itīs less confusing.

- Claudi,

That makes sense to me! I just wanted to have it as a keyboard so that I could learn to touch-type.
I think you are right by using a keyboard where you can see the letters that you are making!

I say, whichever way is easier and improves communication, that\'s the best way.
