| same word but different spelling - While browsing thru this forum, trying to learn and understand some words. I am completely confused. Why the same word but different spelling? good night = Shubha Raatri = Subha raatri Thank you = Dhanyevaad = Dhanybhad Can someone help? Thanks. | |

| - Sikaumu_angie, Namaste! Good question. Thank you for your interest in Nepali! About the different spellings for the same word: There are not any legal and official rules and regulation that how must be the Nepali words (alphabets) in English. To be perfect and ideal to write a language with the help of second language the person must be perfect (sure) in pronunciations in both languages. I think that is why some one use to write “Dhanyebaad” and someone “Dhanevaad”. Anyway as I know, “Dhanyevaad” is the nearest for “Thank you” in Nepali. Dhanyevaad! | |
